Dreamchess

#1 Post by MU »

veeery beautiful :!:

from: http://www.dreamchess.org/

requires OpenGL and LibSDL.
Compiled in Muppy 008.3 (Puppy 301).

I don't know how it runs without hardware acceleration.
Try the different skins in the menu.

I attach 2 screenshots.

Download (5 MB):
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Games/Dreamchess-0.2.0.pup
mirror:
http://puppyfiles.ca/dotpupsde/dotpups/ ... -0.2.0.pup

Notes:
depends on minixml.
2.5 did not work, so I used 2.0.
That seems to have a small bug, creating a options.xml with 2 "?".
So I run a sed comand before dreamchess is launched.
If you still encounter errors, I could try another version.
But with this fix it seems to work fine.

I am having problems getting dreamchess to work. When I click on it nothing happens. I am using puppy linux 4.2.1.

System specs: AMD 1.2ghz, 768mb ram, Nvidia Geforce fx5200 128mb

I clicked run in terminal and got this message: sed: can't read /root/.dreamchess/options.xml: no such file or directory
dreamchess error while loading shared libraries: libSDL_image-1.2.so.0: cannot

I seem to be missing a library of some sort but can't find it anywhere. Its not listed as an official .pet or .pup package that I can see.

Also what exactly is the options.xml error you spoke of because I seem to be getting that error?

Sorry I am responding to such an old thread, but this is the only one I can find on the issue.

you can find some libsdl pets here, entering "libsdl":
http://wellminded.com/puppy/pupsearch.html

I think the options.xml is generated after first start, I think it stores user settings. You can ignore that one I think.

Thanks a million MU! I got it working, after searching I found libSDL_image-1.2.so.0.1.4 at www.puppylinux.ca and downloaded and put it in the lib directory and it didn't work at first, after that I got the brilliant idea to rename it to libSDL_image-1.2.so.0 after I did that it started right up.

I compiled a version for 4.3. It seems to run but I don't have a correct user interface, so here it is for others to test. Let me know yay or nay please.

You might want to rename it back to what it was before and make a symlink using the new name instead... It will work just as well and other software might not work with the file actually renamed to its new name.

hondasid, as for the .pet, I am trying to use it on puppy 4.2 and I get a "failed to find a user interface driver" error and it will not run.

Yeah, that's the error I got. Thought it was my hardware. OK, so FAIL. do not use. i'm going to try and do a pup2pet in a 412 soon, so i'll see if it will install then.
Instead of looking out Windows, I'm playing with my Puppy.

hondasid,
i tried compiling dreamchess but it wouldn't configure because of mxml. I downloaded and installed mxml, and then dreamchess configured a li'l bit further, but still fell over with mxml errors.

Code: Select all

checking mxml.h usability... yes
checking mxml.h presence... yes
checking for mxml.h... yes
checking for mxmlLoadFile in -lmxml... no
configure: error: Cannot find Mini-XML library.
I tried using your pet, and i also hit the 'failed to find a user interface driver' error. When I turned up verbosity, the error looked like this:
~>dreamchess -v3
DreamChess v0.2.0 (r577)
options.c:208: warning: failed to open 'options.xml'
dreamchess.c:568: error: failed to find a user interface driver
which looks like mxml may be causing the pet's problem too.

googling suggests it is an error that should be already fixed:
http://developer.berlios.de/forum/forum.php?forum_id=4973 wrote:There's a problem with the configure script and mxml > 2.2. We'll probably release an updated version of DreamChess in the near future, but in the meantime downgrading to mxml 2.2 (by masking 2.4) should solve the problem.
how does one "downgrade to mxml 2.2 (by masking 2.x)"???

in the meantime i'm off searching for something called libmxml-dev. i've heard it may help.

cheers
