Hi Ally,
"where dod you get a copy, how did you try and what trouble are you having? "
I downloaded from:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pu ... .5_PAE.iso
During initialization it appeared a succession of strange characters ([[23~^[[23~^[[23~^...) on the screen and I could not see the boot messages.
In the first boot, the touchpad worked and I could set up the keyboard, run gparted but during the install (full) in flash it again showed the sequence of characters ([[23~^[[23~^[[23~^...) for about 30 minutes and did not record anything in flash.
I turned off and made another attempt to boot, but the second time the touchpad did not work.
I thought to try an older version but I'm confused with so many options.
Any tip?
Thanks,
Instruse

Download the non pae version. Pae won't work on earliers EEEs.
http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pu ... _noPAE.iso
http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pu ... _noPAE.iso
download the non-pae version, use this link it's faster than ibiblio
http://ftp.nluug.nl/ibiblio/distributio ... _noPAE.iso
puppy works best as a frugal install, try again with the non-pae as see how you get on

I burned iso in CD and booted using a cd reader at USB.
I started X server and interface is working well.
But the touch pad don't work.
I plugged an USB mouse and it worked.
I opened the setup and tried to activate the touchpad but the message:
"Could not find synaptics properties. In synaptics driver loaded?"
Any tip?
Thanks,

Try my slacko5.7-2017eee
I have a version of slacko 5.7 that I use every day on an EEE900a (very similar to your 901)
The ISO can be D/L and burned to CD, then installed frugal to USB stick. Recommended to use Gparted while running off the CD, and partition the USB to 1Gb using ext3. Set the boot flag and bob's your uncle. Installation uses all the defaults, just remember what the partition lable is (usually sdb1, but with two ssd's it might be sdc1... its the one that 1Gb in size), and files are on CD. When done, the first shutdown should save 256Mb as a 3fs (ext3 file system). Its rather straight-forward considering puppy.
As per you synaptics problems, this version has it, and is configured in MENU --> Setup --> Mouse/Keyboard Wizard. Click on touchpad.
I think you will like the end result.

Sorry for the double
I do not recommend using any SDHC card in an eeePC. These readers are old and very slow. A USB Stick is a cheap and available option. Use only USB2.0 types 16Gb or less. There are problems with 32Gb+ (exfat ) The usb2.0 stubby ones are great, and I use them. eBay has these usually 5 for $20 - $25.

The easiest way I did several EEEpcs was to use an external optical drive.
Dpup 5.28 iso is my guess for best results.
Burn iso to cd using any OS.
Boot EEE to cd. Install to SDHC card, using universal installer. That keeps the original OS intact.
I still have xandros on my 4 GB 900a. Many Pups run from my 32GB card, with no slowdown.
I still have a couple of old clients running 4.03 on 701 EEEpcs!

from usb.
Everything worked.

I've sold it since then.
Above was a 128MB sdhc card install using a broken Kodak camera where the SD card was the only salvageable item on the camera. I used the secondary phison ssd drive as my frugal storage section. It ran pretty zippy.
But It is not a operating system install for novices.
I'm running frugal Precise 5.7.1 from the SDHC card slot on an EEE 901. I won't say it's a speed demon, but it runs fast enough for my needs, even with Gimp (though the tiny screen limits it for graphics use). The touchpad is supported out of the box, but I find that I prefer a mouse.
The only quirk I've found is that if I disable the camera and bluetooth in the BIOS (the way I want them), Puppy re-enables them as it boots. I didn't think an OS could override the BIOS that way. A piece of tape over the camera fixes that part of the problem, and I've decided to not worry about the bluetooth.
