Have you tried /usr/sbin/input-wizard
select Advanced Xorg keyboard configuration key4button
different makes and models
you could read your /etc/X11/xorg.conf in puppy 4.31
mine says
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Keyboard0"
Driver "kbd"
Option "XkbRules" "xorg"
Option "XkbModel" "pc102"
Option "XkbLayout" "us" #xkeymap0
EndSection

and change it on 2.14X using /usr/sbin/input-wizard
maybe that would work.

Yes I'm sorry Ttuuxxx whatever I try the numlock comes on - I disabled it in the bios - it still comes on when 214X boots into the desktop.

Boot, and good to see you back

#5125 Post by Minnesota »

I am sure you know 11.0 will not boot on a newer machine without a IDE drive. attached file of the screen.

Boot with Xvesa on older IBM R52, no sound. Will find an older box to give it a shot. HAY... Bubbles is back :)>

How are you doing?

Okay, I'm very out of practice. Can someone point me to a good grub tutorial?

I loaded this little laptop with Top11, frugal, with the files in puppy2214 folder, but it's not booting right and I'll be danged but I haven't been able to sort it out.

Used to have some good cheatsheets that I got here, but can't find them anywhere.

Grrr

See my post on previous page. It has my grub4dos entry. Then again, I'll save you the trouble:
title 214X 11

Code: Select all

  find --set-root --ignore-floppies --ignore-cd /214X/initrd.gz
  kernel /214X/vmlinuz root=/dev/ram0 psubdir=214X PMEDIA=idehd PDEV1=hda2 PUPSAVE=ext2,hda2,/214X/pup_save-214X.2fs
  initrd /214X/initrd.gz

I'm sure you can adapt it.

I'm doing pretty good :), Lived in Australia for 14yrs moved back to Canada last year, with the Aussie wife and kids. :)
Found a workaround for your booting issue.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 6&start=15
Also lots of other search results (437)
https://www.google.ca/#q=cannot+find+pu ... om%2Fpuppy

You can also try booting up with puppy ide=nodma

Let me know how it goes and if you find a universal fix ?

I was running from the CD. Booted OK to the iBM laptop, not to a desktop on a sata DVD nor on a Dell laptop.

excellent glad you have it running on something :) I'm trying out the latest Slacko right now, its 111MB larger iso image than 2.14X, Doesn't come with gimp or half the programs, The DevX is 918MB extracted. Really I see why we need a version like 2.14X for older pc's and newer ones if it recognizes all the hardware.

I tried Tinycore a couple of times when it first came out, It wasn't bad, But it wasn't puppy, I might give it another whirl and see how its improved over the years.

No luck on that with the newer machine, however brought up an older box with an IDE drive and all is well. Also tried WkPup2x without success. Not a big deal. Probably will play more later. THANKS

Glad you are back in Canada, trust family and all are doing very well!

Hello All
Have done manual frugal install on a ide hd with other pups booting with grub. This is on an old Toshiba laptop 800MHz 320MB. Have a couple of problems one trivial the other more series. I have a PCMCIA card for WIfI and USB2. WiFi is working but not USB2. I've attached a screen shot of my USB info in the hope it will help. USB2 works with other pups. Any help much appreciated.

Regards,

Ken.

well that's great news, I know how somethings get really frustrating sometimes and its great when it works out.
Kind of like the firefox search plugins, grrrrr I made some for firefox to search the forum and Barry's blog years ago in .src format, Then Firefox moved to using xml format so last Sunday I spent like 8hrs working on getting those plugins to work. Finally success I was pretty happy and posted the new plugins on the slacko thread, then within mins reports came out that they didn't work, So I downloaded slacko and guess what, Mozilla changed the format again, this time they ditched files that you could easily make somewhat to a FF generated file called search.json.mozlz4 , At one time you could easily edit .json files but these newer ones are more difficult, I've only spent a bit of time on this, been working etc. I'll have another look when I get a day off again :)

Well Ttuuxxxy - its working real well I copied the xsetumlock script to /root/startup. I discovered you have glibc at 2.10 the same as wary wow thats pretty useful for retropup because of that I have firefox 38.8.0 working this is turning out to be a great pup.
