Hey JB, spare time pending, do you have any advice for Marc here?

The relevant driver page is here.

TIA

It's a long time I'm not playing with fatdog64. There are not 64 bit drivers of brother printers. In recent distros like ubuntu 64 bit there are drivers which work installing 32 bit dependencies. So I would suggest the following steps:

1- Load 32 bit compatibility libraries as sfs.

2- Install debbi-1.2.pet:

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=42533

after converting it in fatdog standard txz.

3- Install lpr and cupswrapper 32 bit drivers with debbi. Give feedback if it works.

I installed printer driver for Brother 7860DW manually a year ago.

The steps that watchdog listed is close to what I did (except that I didn't use debbi and just extracted the files manually from the .deb files). I think you should give it a try.

Well, we'll see if Marc here can conquer his fears.

Thanks for the timely response JB.

I did some testing with my old install of fatdog64-700. I was not able to correctly install my Brother HL2130 laser printer. The best I achieved is a "No authentication data provided" error when printing in the log file when set to debug mode. You can just extract the debbi script from debbi-1.2.pet and move it in /usr/bin.

EDIT: success. I have deactivated /etc/init.d/70-cups and turned on /etc/init.d/71-cups32 for 32 bit start of cupsd (change execute permissions in Properties: take away all execute permissions to 70-cups and activate them all to 71-cups32). Then I made a symlink /etc/init.d/cups to /etc/init.d/71-cups32.

Code:
ln -s /etc/init.d/71-cups32 /etc/init.d/cups

I have moved the debbi script extracted from debbi-1.2.pet in /usr/bin. Then:

Code:
debbi lprdriver.deb
debbi cupswrapper.deb
rm /etc/init.d/cups

Install ghostscript from fatdog repo:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/fatdog/packages/700/ghostscript-9.10-x86_64-1.txz

My brother laser printer is now working.

I have packaged for fatdog64 the debbi-1.2 script. Remove the fake .gz extension.
debbi-1.2-fd64.txz.gz
