Which Puppy are you using at the moment?

#1 Post by nic007 »

I've been using Tahr 6.0.5 all along, very good. However, I decided to start Racy 5.5 up again and realised how superfast it is. From general usage to browsing (the included version of Seamonkey is very fast and seems "new" enough to work on modern webpages - youtube also playing fluently with html5). I got Frisbee going for wifi so now I have no reason not to use Racy. The base sfs is only 116MB. Now this is how a Puppy should look, feel and run.

At this exact moment, posting from LXPup Tahr 15.12 (based on 32-bit Tahr 6.05). I always liked the LXDE desktop and PCManFM combo from my short time with Lubuntu.....but this way I get all of Pup's advantages.....so for me, it's a nice combination.

Using OscarTalks' package of the 32-bit Iron browser (a bang up to date Chromium 'clone'), and running from a 16 GB Sandisk Cruzer 'Blade' flash drive.....linked into my main Grub4DOS menu.

Youtube defaults to its html5 player and will not allow flash if you have an html5 capable browser. This is problematic if you have a slow connection as flash allows streaming at a lower bitrate. So, now I've added Opera 11 and flash works with youtube. The best of both worlds.

I don't use Firefox and... until about a week ago it was still possible to switch between the two, not so sure this will work now. Anyways, it works with an older browser so problem solved.

I test run many pups.

But my everyday workhorse is Fatdog, using it since 3 years, since Fatdog630.

Slim Slacko - 6

Slim Slacko - 6.

I'd been faithful to Lucid Puppy (playdayz and then rerwin) for years.

But in recent months, my friend (and I, sometimes) had problems with Opera 12.16 on some sites.

I'm not smart enough to solve that.

SlimJet (made from Chrome) works under this Slim Slacko - 6.

Thanks,
Sheldon

When using Puppy my preferred is Lucid 5.2n

But now I have a second and 64 bit capable machine I may try Fatdog, but the lack of software for it may tip my hand.
