Said Randsomeware for Linux/Grub... Grub4dos?

#1 Post by Buddy »

And how does Puppy come out of this said randsomware that is said to affect also Linux? That if its even true.

Then I think about Grub4dos.

Security trough obscurity? Did the old dirty Grub4dos make Puppy "bulletproof" in this round?

Puppy running as a frugal install has all the main Puppy files in a read only setup. No changes can be made to them.
All the changes are in the Puppy save file/folder.

Keep a good clean backup of the save.

If this ransomware ever took place.
Delete the Puppy install.
Do a fresh clean install.
Install the clean Puppy save backup.
Should be back to normal.

Just to be sure, delete the Grub or Grub4dos install and reinstall.

Oh, and good luck getting $250,000 from me or the average home user of Puppy
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Malware encrypts root file system.

Puppy runs as root.

OP thinks grub4dos can maybe save you. That grub4dos boot folder is somehow different that a convention linux install folder.

I needed a good grin on a friday night. Nice reply there bigpup. I could not agree more.
My saves are on a sd card.

Friday nights consist of drinking beer and other things in a bikers world.
It does not take much to get me to grin on a Friday night.
I am a happy drinker/party type of person.

I like your link as a informative link on a situation one can encounter online.

I am not laughing at you personally. Just imaginary thoughts in my head while being in twist, a bit.

So do not take my posts to heart. I never take life too seriously any more.
