Veracrypt, Trucrypts sucessor. How to instal? |
|
Hi, I;m a newbie, and I have no idea how to instal Vera-crypt to my puppy.
I am using the precise version of puppy.
Would someone kindly make a quick guide on how to instal this, or maybe make a pet file for us all to enjoy?

thanks watchdog, but I couldn't work out ho to create a desktop link.
and thank you nilsonmorales, I have the pet file, but I also noticed you mentioned trupack.
do you think trupack is better and more secure than veracrypt?

what you want to accomplish can be done with dm-Crypt/LUKS
veracrypt isnt the only truecrypt spin off, theres another based out of switzerland, called TCNext. personally i dont hold veracrypt in much high regard, but thats just me.
also keep in mind that veracrypt cant open tc containers... so if you need backwards compat, you wont get it.

How to install manually Subject description: Fix FUSE/device mapper missing. |
|
It took me a lot of looking so I thought I would give back and try and save somebody else some effort.
I have tahr-6.0.5_noPAE on a usb key used to run a Thinkpad T42 without a HD as a secure browser machine. I remove the usb key before connecting to the network.
When I tried to install veracrypt:
download installer
run installer
I got:
veracrypt needs:
FUSE library and tools
device mapper tools
veracrypt allows you to click by this message. The gui will launch and you can even run the create vol wizard. But if I try to mount the veracrypt vol it crashes and burns, even if "do not use kernel crypto services" option is checked in the vc options.
There are PETs out there for vc but the manual solution is very easy.
Before running the vc installer:
open puppy package manager
update sources (needs a bunch of cr-to-continues)
run tahr updates
search for and click to que installation of the vc prereqs. I have included all I could figure out. When searching leave off the version in case new versions come out. I.e. in the search box enter libc6 and select the latest version.:
libc6_2.19 (was already present on my machine)
libcryptsetup4_1.6.1
libopt0_1.16 (that is a zero after 'opt')
dmsetup_1.02.77 (this has sub-dependencies)
Install. I used step-by-step install. When you do it that way when you get to dmsetup it asks if you want to check dependencies. Say yes and take them all. There are about 4 sub-dependencies.
exit ppm
Install vc by launcing the vc installer. You should get no error message.
Set up a desktop launcher if you want or enter veracrypt in a terminal window.
Go for a soda.
I hope this helps.

But do you trust it? It showed up with new developers shortly after Truecrypt oddly stopped updating their program.
Conspiracy Theorists Welcome!
