Downloaded the installers (x86.tgz) of some different versions to do some testings.
XorgHigh/GLX is needed for this.
Versions up to 2.2 seems to work in Lucid, though it complains GLX version 1.2 (required 1.3) it works - I have created something similar as shown in the attached image in my Lucid based LazY Puppy which has XorgHigh built in.
Version 4.4 should work in Precise since I've created what you can see in the attached image with my Precise based L.A.S.S.I.E. which has GLX built in.
Just extract the .tgz and execute it from its extraction directory. Runs out of the box, since the installers coming with Java included.

Sweet Home 3D is also to find in the Package Manager (maybe you need to update PPM).
Its version is 3.4, it is running from SFS and the attached image shows it with just loaded the created test1-SH3D-4.4.sh3d file (created in 4.4) into the 3.4 application.
Needs to have Java installed or loaded by SFS - I've just used my LP2_jre-1.7u13-i586.sfs for this.

It's Java. Just run the jar file.

Works fine in Fatdog 631, opened a terminal and ran firefox as root, then on the site the download button selected the linux64 bit edition downloaded it and I used firefox single click on line in the download list and it install. Tried it first with regular setup firefox and it would not let me install it as spot.

Sweethome 3D version 3.0 comes as default in Legacy OS 2.
Because not many look a number of gems included in Legacy OS 2 are missed. Sweethome 3D is just one of them.

Thanks ever so much for this, gjuhasz. You're a good lad!
Just testing it out; trying it in X-Slacko 2.3.2 (570 with XFCE).....and it's working nicely.
This has come just at the right time, too, since we need to plan and/or rearrange things in my elderly mother's home so that she can get around more easily with the power-chair she's planning on buying. This is brilliant, because I can plan stuff out room by room, to get the best route for her around her bungalow.....see what needs moving, and what (if anything) needs discarding.
I've been attempting to do something along these lines with LibreCAD, but it's a long. drawn-out process.....and the sheer number of images needed for different possibilities is enormous.
Looking into the SFS, I see you installed Java with the build. I've never fully understood the ins & outs of Java (except that it can be a huge security risk!) Do I take it this makes it self-contained, so it'll work with any Pup?
I'll try this in a few more Pups, and let you know the results.
Nice one..! Thoroughly recommended.
Mike.

Afternoon, everybody.
Now, then; I tried this out in Tahr64 6.05, since I was curious to see whether it would run under the 32-bit compatibility-libs package. No dice; doesn't want to know. I got all sorts of errors in the terminal.
So, since I use Tahr64 and Slacko64 quite a lot these days, (and there is a 64-bit download available), I've downloaded the 64-bit tgz package from Sweethome3d.com, and turned it into an SFS. Which works perfectly; it's nice, this, since it's a completely self-contained package, with the Java Runtime files already a built-in part of it.
I've followed what gjuhasz has done, and installed it to /opt. Fine by me, because I prefer to put my browser packages and various things there anyway, as many of you know by now.
So for anyone who would like this as a 64-bit build, you can find it at my MediaFire a/c, as usual:-
http://www.mediafire.com/file/bh8t4wxe45lbkof/SweetHome3D-5.4-amd64.sfs
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Big thanks to Pelo, for bringing this to the community's attention. And thanks, too, to gjuhasz.....for making me realise that this was quite an easy build, since everything's self-contained in a single directory. All it needed was the addition of a .desktop entry, to make it easier to find, under Menu->Graphics.
Enjoy!
EDIT:_ As Lazy noted at the time of the original post, 3 years ago, SweetHome3D is available through the PPM (at least it is for the 'buntu-based Pups.) The current release through the PPM is 4.3; gjuhasz and I are here providing you with version 5.4, which I daresay includes more up-to-date JRE files.....though that's not necessarily a 'given'..! We all know how 'tardy' Oracle can be when it comes to 'patching' the damn thing.....
Have fun. I know I shall.
Mike.

Evening, all.
@gjuhasz:-
Just to confirm, the 32-bit SFS works fine in Precise 571, Tahrpup 6.05, and also Racy 5.5. I see no reason why these packages shouldn't work OK in all modern Pups (5-series and up.) FWIW, the .sh3d files produced by the application can be easily swapped back & forth between both architectures (32- and 64-bit.)
Thanks again.
Mike.

SweetHome "bare" package |
|
Mike Walsh wrote: | I see you installed Java with the build. I've never fully understood the ins & outs of Java (except that it can be a huge security risk!) |
Dear Mike,
You are right despite the fortunate fact that this sfs contains the latest Java runtime environment 1.8u121.
However, why not? I replaced the embedded Java folder with a link, then successfully tested SweetHome together with external (old and new) Java runtime versions in Puli.
The size of the "bare" pet is only 22 MB. Well, it is recommended to install the actual Java runtime package for it, but they together consume much more disk/memory space ... Note that in the sfs, the embedded Java only contains the necessary runtime modules (those not needed to run SweetHome, such as server related ones, have been removed).
You can find SweetHome3D-bare.pet and jre-1.8u121-i586.sfs, among others, at http://www.smokey01.com/gjuhasz/packages
Have fun!
Regards,
gjuhasz
