Why do only some WMV files work with Gxine?

#1 Post by smokey01 »

Can someone explain why only some WMV files work with Gxine in puppy 2.13.

It brings up an error with missing wmvdmod.dll. I downloaded the file and I'm not sure where to put it. The readme file only refers to windows.

I downloaded the wmvdmod.dll file from a puppy site.

Thanks in Advance

save it in /usr/lib/win32/

Here are many more codecs:

You also can install most of them with pupget.

WMV Files

Thanks for the information Mark. I actually had the file stored in the dir you suggested and didn't realise it until I looked.
save it in /usr/lib/win32/
It seems weird that some files play but most don't.

Maybe I have broken wmvdmod.dll file.

Thanks again

Mark,

I downloaded the codecs you suggested and placed then in the /usr/lib/win32/ as you suggested and now all appears to be working fine.

Thanks, Grant

If they would update Skype to version three so I had video I could actually stop using windows totally.

I notice there is a linux version of picasa. Is this native linux or does it need wine? This is another program I do like.

Another program I like is Irfanview but apparently it has to run under wine. I'm not a fan of emulators as they slow things down and can be very flakey. GTKsee doesn't do a bad job though.
