hi,

i installed a normal puppy1.0.4 in a pentium3 128MB pc.
i have a hardisk install.

but it freezes more than 10 minutes in

Quote:

copying usr_cram.fs from /mnt/home to / ....

then continue to xwin.

is this a memory problem? i mean, it works fine after that copying thing.
is it possible to skip the copying since i'm using the hardisk?

thanks in advance.

That is just an installation message. A hard-disk installed Puppy will not copy
the usr_cram.fs again.

You can check that the hard disk install was OK by rebooting and not using the cdrom as boot.

I think what he meant by hard disk install is he has pup001 on the hard disk.

If it were me, I would make a swap file and see how it works.

i guess i have made a "poor man's" install as what i have read from other threads not the hd-install option from a cd-live (coz i don't have a cd in that pc), i copied 3 files usr_cram.fs image.gz & vmlinuz to the first vfat partition=hda then run puppy by using tiny.exe

Code:

tiny vmlinuz image.gz root=/dev/ram0 PHOME=hda1 PFILE=pup001-none-262144

is it really necessary to copy usr_cram.fs to /?

i'm trying to change rc.sysinit in ~/etc/rc.d so it just mounts it from /mnt/home where it is located but it reverts to the original even though i was able to save it. i'm lost. Sad

Read this thread all the way through, carefully, and it will explain why your changes aren't being saved. pat attention to the part about the boot process....As for it taking ages to copy....could be something to do with the IDE controller hardisk combination....

thanks blade

i'm reading it now...

EDIT:

Very Happy saved it, used save2image.. then /dev/ram1..

about the ide/hdd problem, you're right most "highly" probably coz when i'm writing files to hd it is still taking me ages.

the hdd i'm using is maxtor. is there a workaround?

thanks for the quick reply guys, i've never been in a forum this active.

Very Happy
