Can't get Pale Moon to run as spot in Fbbox [solved]

#1 Post by davenull »

Hi,

I'm running Tahrpup 6.0.6 on an HP Elitebook laptop, and I've installed Fbbox 4.0.

I like Pale Moon, but I can't get it to run as spot. When I check it to run as spot in the login manager, it fails to open.
Here is the output from running it in terminal:

root# palemoon

(pale moon:2057): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::sm-connect after class was initialised

(pale moon:2057): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::show-crash-dialog after class was initialised

(pale moon:2057): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::display after class was initialised

(pale moon:2057): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::default-icon after class was initialised

** (palemoon.bin:2057): ERROR **: I can't write to '/tmp/launchbar1/orbit-spot', ORB init failed
Trace/breakpoint trap
root#

When palemoon is not ticked as running as spot, and I use the run-as-spot app that I downloaded, I get this similar error message.

root# run-as-spot palemoon

(pale moon:14375): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::sm-connect after class was initialised

(pale moon:14375): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::show-crash-dialog after class was initialised

(pale moon:14375): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::display after class was initialised

(pale moon:14375): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::default-icon after class was initialised

** (palemoon:14375): ERROR **: I can't write to '/tmp/launchbar1/orbit-spot', ORB init failed
sh: line 1: 14375 Trace/breakpoint trap "palemoon"
root#

Can anyone help with a solution to this?

No, as I said, the browser doesn't open at all under spot. It will only run as root.

I have launchbar made in Fbbox.

I run-as-spot without issue. You have a permissions conflict.

Davenull, have you made any progress?

Experimenting I've discovered several *creative* little workarounds that get the job done.

Radky helped with the right-click menu in the other thread, but no success on Pale Moon. Please share!

This sounds familiar. Had a crashing issue. I don't remember the cause or if it even relates to the problem at hand, but from memory it was either a GDK desktop theme conflict or some glib multithread voodoo conflict..

Re: Running palemoon as spot in Tahrpup

In Fbox, setting palemoon file permission to spot:spot works for me:
