Look in /usr/share/cups/model and confirm that the PPD file is there.

Is your model at the top of the CUPS list?

If not, scroll down through the list looking for "HP LaserJet 200".

If you can't find it, use "Or Provide a PPD File" and browse to /usr/share/cups/model.

There are 76 items in the folder /usr/share/cups/model, mostly they are .ppd.gz files and there are 3 .ppd files.
There is no File called HP Lazerjet 200 tried to use "Or Provide a PPD File" but as I say above there is no file called HP Lazerjet 200 or anything like it when I browsed the /model folder.

Continued on with step 7 and installed the PPD file into /usr/share/cups/model.
So what did you do at Step 7?

You should have downloaded the file to a temporary location, clicked on it to unpack it and copied it to /usr/share/cups/model.

So you should see a file named "hp-laserjet_200_colormfp_m276-ps.ppd".

"Or Provide a PPD File" is a button in the CUPS setup screen underneath the drop-down models list.

What are some names of the other files in /usr/share/cups/model?

I unpacked the PPD file from my thumb drive. When it unpacked it did not give me a chance to determine or indicate where to copy the content to. Which is what I was expecting.

Can I extract it again?

If you have already unpacked it, just drag it to the folder /usr/share/cups/model.

I've now moved the file hp-laserjet_200_colormfp_m276-ps.ppd.gz into the directory /usr/share/cups/model. It will not extract.

Download it again.

You extract it just by single-clicking on it.

If you are looking at the .gz file and single-click on it, what happens?

As it stands just now with the .gz file in /usr/share/cups/model I get the little yellow splash screen asking if I want to decompress the file,I select yes and nothing else happens.

I just checked this. The file turns from a gz file to a regular text file.

If that's not happening, you don't have a good download.

[Edit] Take the copy of hp-laserjet_200_colormfp_m276-ps.ppd.gz that you are downloading and attach it to your next post.

You have suggested something that is beyond my ability.

How do I attach a copy of the file to a post please?

At the bottom of the screen where you make a post, there are some buttons to select a file and attach it.

I don't know what you are doing with this file. But when I click on it, it turns into a text file with a .ppd extension. This is correct.

But if you can't get that to work, just copy the .gz file into /usr/share/cups/model. Run the CUPS setup wizard.

I think we are moving forward albeit slowly. I found the pinter in the list, not at the top of the list but just on it. I've selected it and set it up in cups. Tried a test print on usb connection without success.

I'm not going to be in the shed until Monday now. Ill pick up any of your messages over the weekend and act on them on Monday.

I appreciate your time and effort. Thanks for that.

Using the same steps as I gave you, I ran some simulations and it worked. But that's not the same as having the physical printer.

I'm surprised that your model did not appear at the TOP of the list. That should happen if you have the correct matching PPD file.

Instead of printing a test page, print something from a word processor.

This printer would probably work if you were using a big-boy Linux with full HPLIP built-in.

I don't know where else to go with this.

Now thats something I never thought I'd hear you say after the many pages of your helpful comments I've read over the years!

I'll run further tests on Monday, thanks again.
