When you freshly clone woof-CE you are in the testing branch (you can verify that by typing "branch -a" in the terminal while in the woof-CE folder)
Do you actually change branch before you start building?
If yes, which branch?

I assumed I wasn't in testing because it had the latest updates.
The screenshot shows the commands I entered, the branch -a command failed.

Okay, looks like this now.
Anyway, it had an update that must have been done within 24 hours of when I did the build.

EDIT: I'm still in the puduan build from yesterday and have just completed a new build of Stretch-7.0.0a1 to a 16gb 600x SDHC, from the rationalise branch.

Thanks for pointing out my mistake, going to try out the new build now :)

Hi Billtoo, Sailor and all,

Has anyone solved getting conky to go transparent in these dpup-stretch/devuan puppies?

I have tried every iteration I know (and having researched Google for hours about it) of in the conky settings, but no luck. I am faced with that battle of if I want transparency, it is either I lose any icons on the desktop (ROX and conky battling for the desktop) or keep my desktop icons but no transparency (black conky background).

I tried all of Battleshooter's tips, and Moat's tips, in this thread, and no luck: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=72815 I did all of those changes in this thread, to the /root/.xinitrc and also to the /usr/local/apps/Wallpaper/set_bg. Nothing seems to work.

So for a transparent Conky in Dpup-Stretch or Devuan, what is the trick with these Debian-like stretch/devuanpups? It must be possible in Debian pups, because Fredx181 gets all his Conky(s) transparent in his DebianDogs (both 32 and 64 bit) while not affecting his desktop items one bit. Even if I plainly rip Fred's conkys (conkyrc's and the /usr/bin exec) out of his DebianDogs, and plop them in these dpup-stetches/devuans, the background of the Conkys remains black.
Anyone know why? What's the secret sauce for transparency missing here? Does something else need installed in these dpups-stretches???

It's frustrating that I don't understand why I can set up transparent conkys in Tahrs, LxPups, Lupu, Quirkys, & Slackos, but I cannot do it in these dpup-stretch/devuan builds. :?

Thank you for any help and/or tips.

Rationalise is behind.
The testing branch is better at this stage for debian.
You can monitor the progress looking at the commits for each branch.

Solved this. Lesson learned: never compile from source something (Feh) that can be installed from PPM. Once I did this, and re-set up the necessary system files, I now have transparent conky(s) for debian-stretch and Sailor's devuan (along with a conky live-on/off toggle button/icon--that's its icon at the end of the jwmtray, works a charm )

Hi belham.

I do it with qiv, not feh. I prefer qiv because it can double up as a nice no-
fuss picture viewer. It has lots of settings for picture viewing, too.

To allow transparency for conky, I added some lines in my .xinitrc, like so
(lines 112-118)

Code: Select all

[ -f /usr/bin/xsetroot ] && xsetroot -cursor_name top_left_arrow ## line already there

FONDACTUEL="" # Lines added by musher0, 6 oct. 2015
FONDACTUEL="`cat /root/Choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin | grep '<backdrop ' | cut -f 2 -d '>' | cut -f 1 -d '<'`"
qiv -z $FONDACTUEL & # end of lines added by musher0

#relocates right-side icons to actual right-side of screen... ## line already there
The variable "FONDACTUEL" fetches the picture string in PuppyPin and
sets that picture as the background "underneath" ROX via qiv. (There are
at least -- that I know of -- two background layers.) Result: the system
backdrop and the ROX backdrop are identical, and conky appears
transparent.

This way I can keep my conky upgraded from the conky site directly.

You can play with that and ask qiv to set a different background. Then the
transparent conky will look like a window into a different scenery! :)
(But then the user gets confused and gives the dev a mouthful!)

Have fun! BFN.

puduan-7.0.0a1 (Devuan Ascii) woof-ce testing

#29 Post by Billtoo »

I did a new build this afternoon and did a manual frugal install to the
hard drive:

System: Host: puppypc8721 Kernel: 3.14.79 i686 (32 bit) Desktop: JWM 2.3.6 Distro: Puduan 7.0.0a1
Machine: Device: desktop Mobo: Acer model: Aspire X3950 serial: U02C120500059
BIOS: American Megatrends v: P01-A3 date: 05/05/2010
CPU: Dual core Intel Core i3 540 (-HT-MCP-) speed/max: 1200/3067 MHz
Graphics: Card: Intel Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller
Display Server: X.org 1.19.1 driver: intel tty size: 142x37 Advanced Data: N/A for root
Network: Card: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller driver: r8169
Drives: HDD Total Size: 508.1GB (6.6% used)
Weather: Conditions: 45 F (7 C) - light drizzle mist Time: March 7, 7:20 PM EST
Info: Processes: 136 Uptime: 1:57 Memory: 187.9/2899.5MB Client: Shell (bash) inxi: 2.3.5

Some improvements are that there is no error when running the terminal
about a missing libprocps, this has also made PPM work better.
The geany Save As bug is fixed.
The JWM-xdg-menu problem is still there, I looked at the
DISTRO_PKGS_SPECS-devuan-ascii file and it had changed from last build
"yes|xdg_puppy||exe" so I though it may have been fixed.

I'll attach the tahrpup pet that fixes it for me.
I'm also using three pets from @radky,
DpupStretch_trayfix.pet,FbBox-4.1_32Bit.pet,and JWM_themes_update-2.0.pet

I exited to the prompt and ran xorgwizard then chose to use the intel
driver,3840x1080,and 24bit, ran xwin JWM to return to the desktop.
It always defaults to modesetting which works okay but I think the
intel driver works a little better.

Thanks for the fixes.

Thanks Billtoo. The jwm-xdg-menu issue has now been fixed in woof-CE.

@belham: Lol! jlst the comedian. And I figured musher0 would be the first to reply about conky transparency in dpup ;)

I updated the iso to commit 4983. You can now run "shared library binaries" in Rox by clicking on them, thanks to wdlkmpx. :)

Puduan running well

#33 Post by davids45 »

G'day Sailor Enceladus,

This morning I downloaded your latest 'vanilla' Pup-Puduan and set up a manual Frugal (screenshot).

My sfs files all loaded with just one component (world-weather) not running. Gimp and Avidemux needed a missing lib or two which I added.
The browsers in my browsers.sfs all run with their profiles linked from my data partition.
Pets for my printer/scanner were good as was Trio's svg-wall-paper maker.

I like the larger font size with many of the dialog boxes.

My only aggravation is the unnecessary filling up of the 'Places' panel with all the partitions on the computer when using 'Open file'. (see screenshot)
How can I remove this clutter - all I want in 'Places' are my two data partitions, apart from /root and File System - the way it used to be? Are these 'bookmarks'(?) stored somewhere editable by me?

Thanks for your time and trouble,

David S.

Thanks davids45! wdlkmpx deserves most of the credit for the puduan-7 you see now, if it wasn't for wdlkmpx and 666philb, devuan puppy would still be a ~70MB iso where hardly anything worked out-of-the-box. I see what you mean about the Places thing, in Slacko it does not show these drives on the left but in this puduan it does. Not sure if that is baked into this version of Rox or a hack in one of the z scripts or something else but now I'm curious too. I'll let you know if I discover anything.

It looks like you really went to town trying out apps! That was really cool to see. Nice desktop screenshot. Image

The laptop suspend works better now, adrv fixes some more icons like in isomaster, and a few other little things. The Places mentioned by davids45 and jwm 2.3.x freezing desktop when clicking the menu can still happen though (on my laptop at least).

The packages is 3MB smaller mainly because the ascii team removed some more systemd stuff. :)
