I saw that O1micko has updated Slacko beta to 6.9.6.6 so I did a fresh
woof-CE install and a new build:

It's using the 4.4.61 kernel that I compiled a few days ago with the
kernel kit to use with Dpup Stretch.

It's using the proprietary nvidia driver.

Works good so far.

Hi Billtoo.

Thanks for testing.

There are a couple of new additions to the repo - libreoffice-5.2.2.2 (a little old but still works well - compiled in slacko with a recipe from jamesbond - many thanks Smile ) and palemoon compiled in slacko which on opening presents itself as "New Moon" however works just the same.

If you or anyone else want to try these just alter/edit DISTRO_PKGS_SPECS-slackware-14.2 (or corresponding 64 version) like so; (ignoring the dots of course)

Quote:
'...
no|abiword||exe,dev,doc,nls
...
no|gnumeric||exe,dev,doc,nls
...
no|goffice||exe,dev,doc,nls
...
yes|libreoffice||exe,dev| #if you flip this to yes you MUST install lodeps_boost so flip it to yes too
...
yes|lodeps_boost||exe
...
no|mozilla-firefox|mozilla-firefox|exe,dev>null,doc>null| #must keep maintained if used, no from patches repo
...
yes|palemoon||exe,dev
...
...'

But this doesn't quite do it as libreoffice isn't set as defaultspreadsheet or defaultwordprocessor.
Woof has a mechanism to fix this: a file called _00build.conf.

Here is what the bottom of it currently looks like:
Code:
## -- Default Apps --
## Not all are implemented in the puppy scripts,
##   but you can specify a default app if you wish...
## If you specify a value it will override anything that previously
##   set that value in the corresponding script...
## These are the current default*apps (scripts) in /usr/local/bin
DEFAULTAPPS="

defaultspreadsheet=
defaultterminal=
defaulttexteditor=
defaulttextviewer=
defaultwordprocessor=
"

## - extra commands --
## Here add custom commands to be executed inside sandbox3/rootfs-complete
EXTRA_COMMANDS=""

Edit _00build.conf to look like this: (note the libreoffice entries near the bottom)

Code:
## -- Default Apps --
## Not all are implemented in the puppy scripts,
##   but you can specify a default app if you wish...
## If you specify a value it will override anything that previously
##   set that value in the corresponding script...
## These are the current default*apps (scripts) in /usr/local/bin

defaultterminal=
defaulttexteditor=
defaulttextviewer=
defaultwordprocessor=libreoffice --writer
"

## - extra commands --
## Here add custom commands to be executed inside sandbox3/rootfs-complete
EXTRA_COMMANDS=""

You are now done editing and just build away. Works ok for me.

Have fun Smile

NB: I tried to compile palemoon for 32 as sse but can't test as my last athlonXP mobo died some months back. Any feedback on that is appeciated. If you install in slacko-6.9.6.4 then hunspell-1.6 is needed too, found if you update the repo.

Hi,

Thankyou for the updates.

I'll give the instructions that you posted a try in the next few days.

The kernel kit is working well now.

I did another build adding Palemoon but not Libre Office, it's using
the 3.16.43 kernel compiled with the kernel kit.

The proprietary Nvidia driver is installed, the Nvidia site told me
that my browser needed updating but finally let me download the driver.

I have the computer connected to a 32" TV with an HDMI cable, good for
my old eyes Smile

Thanks.

Hi Billtoo!

Where might this new version be hiding? I for one would like to check it out and I'm sure there are others!

Hi sszindian,

It's a diy build that I did to test the changes that 01micko has done to update the beta to 6.9.6.6

I won't be posting it but I'd guess that 01micko will be posting new 32 and 64 bit betas before too long.

I just followed the instructions on page 1 of this thread, need a 10gb directory named "work", enter that directory and open a terminal (while running the 6.9.6.4 beta with the devx loaded) then copy and paste the steps into the terminal, start to finish takes a couple of hours but you'll end up with version 6.9.6.6

'Thanks for the reply!'

No, I just tried a couple, had to settle for Google Maps.

Maybe mic will correct that at some point... Myself, I use google earth a lot in the research I do (along with flash earth and mapper-2.0 but only google earth lets you 'tilt' the terrain, which for me is a must.)

Anyway, thanks for all your insight!!!

JWM seems to be broken, no panel, just icons on the desktop.
The firewall is missing too.

I'm using FbBox-4.1

Yeah, I broke something yesterday, but fixed it a couple of hours ago. Grab the latest woof and it should work.
