All settings, files. etc. have dissapeared

#1 Post by clickbrain »

I didn't do anything differently last night, but all of my settings and files have dissapeared this morning upon reboot.

Ii am running Puppy 2.13 off a 1 GB USB key. For about a week now everything has been running smoothly. My network settings have been saved and retained. I have another bug, because you can not add a USB device to my system until after it boots, but that's OK.

I have saved files, a set of home pages in Sea Monkey, desktop background, video settings, etc. and all was working until I shut down my PC last night. This morning it's like a fresh reinstall of the OS. Nothing I had before is there. I had to reset the wireless network card, xorg, etc.

Between yesterday afternoon until laset night and through to this mornign, the only thing done on this PC was surfing the web. I have not installed anything nor have I changed any settings.

The one thing that happened is that I had a wireless USB mouse plugged in when I booted. When I forget to take it out, it will not boot and gives me a TTY error of some kind (I have it written down and will post). That happened this morning, so I pulled the mouse and rebooted. This has happened numerous times before though and I have never lost my files and settings like this.

I am going to run the checks for errors in the logs, but if anyone has ideas on how to get back and why this would happen, that would be great.
