Is AI being deliberately stupid?

#1 Post by Lobster »

There I was talking to Siri (this is a true story) The conversation went something like this:

Lobster: 'Hey Siri, plays some ambient music from Youtube'

Now Siri is a sassy AI and knows exactly what Youtube is and what Ambient music is:

Siri: 'Don't know what, 'Youtube' is, Taking you to Apple Itunes'

Of course Siri - why provide free music when Apple 'AI' can flog you something . . .

And 'Hey Google' will get you similar sponsored results - just like their search engine.
Amazon Echo? Smart enough to sell you stuff and ignore free alternatives?
... of course ...

What Open Source speech recognition AI is open to us independents?

OK... I'm tin-foil-hat enabled...

So you want SIRI or any other VR-app to record your voice-pattern?

Hi, guys.

About the substance of the question (I don't really know AI apps):

It seems obvious to me that AI developers will aim to reach the largest
number of potential customers. So they'll give their AI robots the "lowest
common denominator" of intelligence, meaning -- yes, you're right, Lobster
-- "deliberately stupid"! (Human nature and humanity being what they are...)

Something coded by Apple to work on Apple products.

And you wonder why it only knows about Apple stuff.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

If it didn't know what Youtube was, why would it take you to Apple Itunes without your permission? I hate liars! A phone that lies should be destroyed immediately.

Thanks guys. I don't use or require a phone. Yep I have an old Android phone, without contract, that can phone the emergency services if I need help or when connected to wi-fi.

Ipad is where I use Siri. Of course Google weights its search engine (cash for prioritization), Apple, Amazon, Google and governments try and promote their interests. People are still the smart/dumb behind AI ...

It is likely that 'pure AI' if I can put it like that, will need a quantum computer, massive parallel processing option and something like a wikipedia funding model ...

The question of how this comes about need not be left to the usual vested interests. Are we the unvested/independent interests? 8)

It is my feeling, that the question of basic evolution of AI has not thoroughly dealt with the issue of beeing in a bad mood, or evil. Mainly because we assume that only the good sides of the actions of the human mind will be understood and replicated, without questions, by an AI. Sooner or later the AI will discover differences in actions and their response, and start making it's own interpretations on how to do things.
Oh, what a minefield!

You really found an interesting theme here, Lobster!
