guys, I installed the lastest version 24 on firefox (from oscartalk), and it still doesn't work on this page https://www.adobe.com/fr/shockwave/welcome/
It's correctly activated/installed in firefox in the plugin panel

I tried to uninstall it and reinstall flash player 11 with "Get flash 1.6" but it still shows "24.0.r" inside firefox plugins and it doesn't display flash.

Anyone has an idea? It's just annoying that some sites aren't working cause of flash.

Try this adobe page for testing flash player plugin:-

The version 24 (NPAPI) is a beta. It does also require a fairly recent glibc so won't work in older Puppies. Tahr should be fine though. Some websites won't display flash content with version 11 because they regard it as too old even though in Linux it is the latest and has all security updates.

In Firefox it is recommended to stick with version 11 unless you are having a problem with websites that won't display.

Uninstallation of .pet packages via PPM should work. You can remove the plugin manually from /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins if for some reason uninstallation does not delete it. In recent Puppies it is probably best to use one of the utilities such as GetFlash or the Auto Updater script. Sometimes you have to make sure the utility is updated to the latest version because Adobe makes changes to their hosting system from time to time.

In the other thread you mentioned libavcodec error messages. If you are using latest Firefox there is a thread about this. You may need to change this setting to get flash player to work and once you do this you will probably find that all versions work OK:-

Thanks a lot for spending your time answering me.

I had tried (few days ago) to delete the lib manually and it didn't seem to work but I guess it just added up with the libavcodec bug, so now everything is solved thanks to you. 3-6 months without flash was very annoying.

By the way that "gnash" alternative looks interesting considering how annoying flash is. Just dunno how to add and if it's a good idea (for ease of use, only browsing the web)

I wouldn't bother, if I were you! GNASH hasn't been under active development for nearly 7 years (last version being 0.8.8, from early 2010).....and even then it was still considered to be very 'flaky'. I tried it a while ago, early last year. Wouldn't even compile, much less install or run. And you more or less have to compile it; it's only available as source code.

The project has essentially been abandoned.

Unfortunately, even in the open-source community, certain 'proprietary' stuff has to be used if you want a reasonable web experience. At least with Adobe, it's a case of 'the devil you know...'

Flash Player Updater is trying to download version 24.0.0.186 this morning.

I suspect this may be a bad thing.

Actually....no.

It appears that ye ancient Flashplayer 11 for Linux is now officially dead. Looking on the Adobe FlashChecker page this morning (which shows all available versions), there is, for the first time, just one version across the board: 24.0.0.186.

It rather looks as though the NPAPI FlashPlayer 24 is finally out of 'beta'.

I'm thinking Adobe have been playing musical URLs (again!) Geoffrey's Auto-Updater is probably going to need 'tweaking' once more; we've had to do this a few times since Geoff wrote it. Once more won't surprise me at all......but it looks as though this may be the last time it needs doing. (Hopefully..!!)

The GetFlashPlayer utility is no longer loading the latest version. Here's a screenshot:

GetFlashPlayer seems to load a blank file as the latest update.

I believe it's a grep context issue. I may be wrong but this version has some of the same code from Geoffreys updater. He has updated his version

Thanks. I downloaded the file here: update_flash-1.8.pet and it's great. It works!

UPDATE: I upgraded the OS to Slacko64v6.9.9.9uefiK4.9FF-LO. The updater seems to work on this, but between boots it behaves as if the updater has never run. I think it's the OS's bug. Maybe it needs more testing. B'H.

Bumping this thread with latest update.
I usually try to update these when they come out but rarely bump the thread. Since it is now quite a few pages down I decided to do so on this occasion.

Other flash-player installing and updating tools are available.
Flash-player is used a lot less these days than it used to be a few years back.

I still have the flashplayer 10 and 11 versions, but didn't even know there are new npapi flashplayers. I thought this was the end of it.

I went looking on the site of Adobe and also discovered that the ppapi flashplugins are available on their own now, not as part of a "google browser".

I don't need this much since I do not play often, but I like to have a good functioning webbrowser anyway.
