Jajuk Advanced Jukebox might be of interest to someone

#1 Post by john biles »

Hello Everyone,
Here is a screenshot and download link for installing Jajuk in Puppy.

http://optusnet.dl.sourceforge.net/sour ... 2_i386.deb

What you basically have to do is undeb the deb file and copy and paste all files and folders to their correct locations.

You'll find the startup file in /usr/bin/jajuk

It also requires Java 1.5 as a min but would prefer Java 1.6 which makes it run faster.

Hello John_Biles and all.

Eight years and 3 ½ months after John's initial post, finally a reply! :)

An illustration, I suppose, of the French proverb that goes: "Patience and length of
time are a better choice than force and rage." (Free transl. of the original:
"Patience et longueur de temps valent mieux que force et que rage."

Before opening a new thread for the new jajuk, I did a search on "jajuk", and this
popped up. Might as well use it! :) I'll be in good company!

I have prepared a pet archive and an sfs archive of the latest version of jajuk,
v. 1.10.9-2, from the deb archive available on their site.

However, I thought that their positioning of the application itself under
/usr/share/jajuk was odd for Puppy, so I redid the set-up of this jajuk under /opt.
Because of that repositioning, I had to partially rewrite the start script as well.

Works a treat on my set-up.

Please note: the pet has been tested on a 32-bit box.
  • -- There is a lib64 folder in the jajuk packages, however. Tests results welcome.
-- The same goes for the jajuk sfs archive: tests results welcome.
So here you are: the most excellent music player and music collection organizer
jajuk-1.10.9 for PuppyLinux.

You can download the pet archive from:
and the sfs archive from:
-- https://www.adrive.com/public/wJmVAh/ja ... _6.4.0.sfs --

The hashes are as follows:

bf986f044f7e076fca1a9a506a9acd75 jajuk-1.10.9-2_6.4.0.sfs

# SHA1

Don't forget that you need a recent java JRE (v. >= 1.7) to benefit from the
jajuk music player. Available at: -- https://java.com/en/download/ --
The other dependency is mplayer, which exists on most Puppies. Although
jajuk will work with its own included play engine, the authors recommend that
mplayer be used for better sound definition.

Enjoy!

Hello again.

If you need it, I've made available, through here, the most recent (as of this writing)
java_JRE-1.8.77_32-bit as an sfs archive.

Jajuk at Tahrpup Theater

Bravo for Music lovers and jajuk in 2007... all that was working perfectly,
i can tell you that to get some amusement in 2016, excepting linuxing, it's a hard and painful task to do.
Musher0 tries to change it. But last Puppies without FFmpeg refuse simply to play the old and kind jukeboxes (Vivid 6.5)

Jajuk uses Mplayer for a much better quality.

#7 Post by Pelo »

one further information : jajuk has a player included but normally uses Mplayer for a much better quality. If Mplayer is boycotted by some new puppies as Tahrpup, you can link Jajuk to a player as DeaDbeef, or perhaps VLC (on test to day at home). Sure a newbie will disconnect, as his intention was listening music , not linuxing (if he is able to)
No trace of VLC activity in Htop running machines, Deadbeaf does it sure ! yes Deadbeef can ! ... :( Deadbeef stopped ! Don't listen Musik with tahrpup... Would Tahrpup become a puppy for programmers training only ?
However the techno music from Italia makes me happy !

Bonjour,
Thank you a lot musher0: this program is great and very complete.
3 little things I am personally missing (I am repeating myself ):
  • - Too bad about the very useful crossfade when changing music on the fly.
    - The look of the interface which cannot be set to be totally integrated with the current Puppy theme.
    - un max de fautes de frappe ou de français, la vache...
Cordialement.

No!

During the development of my T.O.P.L.E.S.S. I had used mostly tahr 6.0.2 and tahr 6.0.5 also.

I like to listen to music when developing. Though, I don't listen to techno since this is senseless and ugly noise. But I'm listening orchestral and instrumental music from movies or some classical stuff.

When ever I had developed T.O.P.L.E.S.S. using tahr 6.0.2 and tahr 6.0.5, I had used Aqualung to play music - Aqualung downloaded from the tahr repo (.deb files) and made an SFS from those downloaded .deb files.

No, but I gave my old drum kit away for free to a music store collecting instruments for refugees!

Hello Argolance.

Long time no see!

There's nothing much the user can do about the quality of the French, except report it
to the authors themselves.

About the look of the interface, in the configuration area, there are about "111"
themes you can choose from (graphic interface sub-section).

À la revoyure.

Jajuk available for entertainment in ToOpPy stores ?

#11 Post by Pelo »

Argolance could change his opinion, and make Jajuk available for entertainment of his ToOpPy passengers.
I decided to include Java in my Tahrpup 6.0.2 at home.
Other juke-boxes are nice, more than Jajuk (?) but Jajuk has no trouble in any of my Puppies, excepted those without Mplayer.. I failed to link it to Vlc. But i am not a Linux expert.
Perhaps somebody can do it...

That was an old topic ! Now at the top of our forum.. But i must recognize that our ambassador Musher0 in canada was accurate to cause Jajuk revival. So some chansongs from Quebec are playing on my jukebox, And i understand what they say, in spite of their accent.
