Eliminate one possible problem with the hard drive.

Corrupted file system.

Boot with the Tahrpup DVD.
The hard drive partitions cannot be mounted to do this check.

Run Gparted.
Selected to see the hard drive.
Right click on a partition.
Select check.
Should check and correct anything wrong with the filesystem (format) of the partition.
Check all of them, if you have more than one partition.

I regret to report that this does not help either. Files Xwin is trying to access in /etc and /root seem to be either missing or read only, or so the error messages purport.

Many thanks to bigpup and others who ventured suggestions to resolve my issue. In the end, I decided to close the coffin lid and give this puppy a new life. This message is coming to you from a freshly installed Tahrbaby. I'll be in touch if any problems arise in the course of configuration,
