Slow down that DVD drive

Don't know if anyone else has had to put up with a dvd drive screaming away at 16x while one is trying to watch a dvd...Anyways, this will slow it down to 4x.
Might need tweaking if your drive is not sr0.
If you need to tweak the target DVD drive:
1. Navigate to /usr/bin and find the file called dvd-speed.
2. Open with geany (or whatever you use)
3. Change hdparm -E4 /dev/sr0 line to hdparm -E4 /dev/srX(or whatever your drive name is as it appears on the desktop).
4. Save the file.

BTW, you need genuine hdparm to get the -E option. BusyBox hdparm doesn't have it.

Well my needs are simple, but here is a pet with hdparm built in. HDparm is version 9.39.

A popup with set DVD speeds and reset would be cool when clicked on the menu entry. Maybe. like I said it was just that irritating full speed dvd whizzing.

Does the movie still play ok after you've slowed down the drive?

Yes, both the busybox version and the hdparm version play fine.

I can't find a command to put it back to full speed in the busybox version, but it's not how I roll.

If I was wanting full speed for whatever reason then I would not press the dvd speed menu entry in a puppy session. I don't use a save file.

I think rcrsn51 will know all the business to make a more versatile dvd speed controller, which is why I put the one with hdparm in it.
