Lynis will not harden your system. It will proceed to scan your system, and if vulnerabilities are found, it will tell you about them and how to harden your OS.

How it works :
Lynis performs hundreds of individual tests. Each help to determine the security state of the system.

Lynis scanning is "opportunistic". That means it only uses what it can find. No installation of other tools needed, so you can keep your systems clean.

By performing opportunistic scanning, the tool can run with almost no dependencies. The more it finds, the deeper the audit will be. In other words, Lynis will always perform scans that are customized to your system. No audit will be the same!

It doesn't need to be installed. Download the tar.gz :
https://cisofy.com/download/lynis/
extract it and use this command in terminal :
./lynis audit system

If you prefer a .deb file :

Thanks!

Lost my bearings in the log file though.

I'm not even sure what it did or didn't do.
Interesting program with a lot of big brained things taking place at the speed of light. Lol!

I need to read up on it more.
Right now I feel like I have the plans to the death star and the force awaits my command.
