Installation of OS is a step, but then what will you do with it..
Devs will go and install a new one, But passengers will not satisfy with vintage apps. and will ask for an Help desk, to answer their questions.

All I got say guys is that I've been using my versions for 5 moths daily and its been great,
Haven't upgraded or changed it since my last release, The reason why is that it works fine,

I Woof'ed a basic Puppy Stretch 7.0.0a1 and it looks pretty good. Have an issue with static sound, but newer Pups seems to have issues with this laptop.

Debian and offspring seems to be hot right now, gaining in popularity. The rise of the Dogs, and AntiX recently overtook Puppy on Distrowatch rankings. So it is the highest ranked lightweight frugal distro now. Need to give 'em some competition.

Just wanted to document that I have tested to see if VLC 2.2.6 will compile against the native ffmpeg 3.x libraries in Stretch. Unfortunately it will not.

This means that the rollback of ffmpeg libraries to 2.8.11 in my build environment which I used with VLC 2.2.4 and again with my build of 2.2.6 is still required.

This also means that the older ffmpeg libraries have to be included in the VLC package in a non-PATH location and VLC has to be launched via a wrapper script which gives priority to the older libs over the newer (system) ffmpeg libs. Obviously these libs do increase the VLC package size somewhat.

The created wrapper script is named as "vlc" in /usr/bin with the original binary vlc renamed as vlc-bin and called by the wrapper. This method is working beautifully for me, with VLC loaded as an .sfs package and running flawlessly, but for anyone else testing they may wish to keep in mind the steps I have taken. Some adaptation may be required to other people's individual system configurations.

PPM may offer an alternative but it will probably want to drag in all sorts of dependencies. The VLC website still has the status in Debian Stretch as "in testing". If anyone can come up with a better or more universal solution for a Stretch Puppy build then I would like to hear about it.

Puppy Linux was known to trim the fat and release very light OS, however full featured.
The Dogs team is getting his Debian OS lighter than Puppies, and with the necessary apps for home usage, by the family

on the other hand, Puppies by tuxx or enceladus run very well. Which one will do public release ? Why not both of them..
The guy ready to help uploaders should be elected .We need mechanics, not only engineers whan we buy a car..

Startup folder applets not launching at startup

Open the file /usr/sbin/delayedrun and locate the block of code at the end. There are several versions.

Code A (currently in Stretch) is completely broken and prevents the applets in the Startup folder from launching.

Code B (in some old Puppies) launches the applets but has a bug. It leaves orphaned "delayedrun" processes.

Code C above is the correct version.

Code D is a cleaner correct version.

Its solid, just the little issues mentioned with fixes supplied. Just using the debian stretch repositories for software and libs.

This debian stretch is on its way to replacing precise as my daily driver.

Too bad it seems abandoned, ttuuxxx & company did a nice job with this and it was close to being finished. Wouldn't be hard to remaster
with the fixes to make a final release. But would not be "official"

Locator from Geoffrey runs fine on ttuuxxx debian stretch. I have been using the version 3.5
of Locator though there is a newer release posted in the thread. Locator is a tiny program that
provides a quick route to google maps with all the optional sat views etc.

There is an issue with the version of librsvg2-2_2.40.16 in debian stretch that interferes with the
initial display in the Locator window - but that can be clicked through with one click which
transfers the chores to your default browser.

The fix to show the initial display as designed is to downgrade the librsvg version in /usr/lib/ to librsvg2-2_2.36.1
which fixes the initial display. IMHO Locator is a very cool little program.

To apply the fix see http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 2&start=29 and follow instructions
to install the 32-bit librsvg from precise, links to appropriate librsvg provided in that post.

Like I said, Locator runs ok without these changes to the librsvg libs but the changes make it run as designed
by Geoffrey. No ill affects noted so far from the lib substitution, if I see any issues will report it here.

Battery icon not showing in tray

hi ttuuxxx,

the battery monitor powerapplet_tray is missing icons and isn't showing in the tray. the one from tahrpups repos works and it also has pemasus low battery warning.

Have a look at radiotray available in the Debian repositories (apt-get install radiotray) as a possible alternative to DogRadio. Running it adds a aerial type icon to the tray and right click ... configure radios ... you can add/edit/remove stations as desired.

Fine, but I think it is good to support app/util development done on the forum - most of which are tiny and can be used/modded to work on either Puppy itself or on the various Dogs. Otherwise, just use full Debian and what Debian provides and don't bother with development work here so just close the forum!
