GKrellM

http://gkrellm.srcbox.net/

Available from standard repositories. Using Trinitydog (based on Debian 9 stretch), i installed GKrellM and configured it with gui.

The developer's website has everything you need to know to use and configure the app, with screenshots of what the app looks like on the desktop.

In configuration GUI, you can configure your mail reader, and the app should notify you of any new email in your inbox (clicking the envelope icon launch your mail reader).

Mike Walsh (on another board) gave me a link to some gkrellm themes
http://www.muhri.net/gkrellm/nav.php3?n ... &sort=name
Download 'em, extract, then place the resulting skin folder into the 'themes' directory of the hidden .gkrellm2 directory. It's in /root in Pup. Then you can choose which one you want when you right-click 'Configuration' on the top panel of GkrellM, and select 'Themes' from the left hand pane.

Just a few quick notes.. or hints. For new users.

"Krell and LED updates per second" do not take less than "1" update.
Default is "10"? Make it "1", eats less CPU power.. Unless there's any reason to update
it more than once every second.

Look for "Invisible" or its derivative themes, for transparent background.
If used with the same font(..different size) and color-palette for font as set for ROX desktop
it may give pretty solid look.

Clock and calendar accept "markup" in settings.
Screenshot uses for date:
%A , %e %B
and for clock:
<span foreground="#ffffff"><span font_desc="Xolonium 32">%H:%M</span></span> %n %n %n %n %n %n
these "%n" are just "newline"s to push the CPU-meter a bit away from clock.
..so it can use any font ( TTF/OTF ) at any size or color possible.
Date codes like "%A" and "%H" are, I think, compatible with "date" command,
for full list, type in terminal:
date --help

Tick "Remember screen location at exit..." to fix location.
Removing hostname and system name from top area will avoid moving the window.
Adjust CPU-meter(s) number of grids to "3" or more, by right-clicking on it.

gkrellkam2.so is a fun plug-in to add.

GKrellM is pretty good at detecting CPU and GPU sensors (temperatures, in both C and F)
WiFi connections etc.. if there is anything to detect.
:)

Screenshot shows calendar, clock, CPU-meter. Updated every second.
That configuration uses (..HTOP info) 1,5% RAM of 1GB and 0,5% (now-and-then) CPU on old single P4.
