What would be a good location for the .xpm image?

I don't think it matters, one just needs to specify the correct path. Generally I would say same location as the menu.lst file for the sake of having things together.

The cheetah looks amazing - I couldnt believe that was only 14 colors... but it was Wink
bigpup: Like nic said - easiest to just save the xpm to same place as menu.lst then you just need to have: splashimage=/whatever.xpm and it works.

Guys why not use this as it works with grub4dos.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=88181
It's much better than a splash image, higher resolution and up to 1024x768.

Download the message files from here:
http://www.smokey01.com/help/bsme/message/
Other message files may not work so use these as templates.

Some help.

I'm aware of this but wanted to see what I can do with the existing limitations without installing something (see my opening post). I may have a look at your application though, thanks.

Is it possible to give 'or' statement in menu.lst?
So when we lost our splash.xpm
(maybe was deleted by someone who borrow our flashdisk),
we still can use color in menu.lst

If you don't have a splash image, that command line should be omitted. The colors are determined by the color command line which has nothing to do with the splash image.

I took this from akita linux
part of menu.lst
Code:
#color black/cyan black/yelow white/black yellow/black
#splashimage=/splash.xpm
#forground=FFFF00
#background=000088
default 0
timeout 08
gfxmenu /gfxfile

Download the gfxfile-powered-by-puppy from here and rename to gfxfile https://my.pcloud.com/publink/show?code=XZAuvy7ZM0u7hhXx5LJFY1KJFx5nymNkSIyy

use the gimp for save a 800x600 image in quality 90, smoot 0.00
extract a old gfxfile
cpio -iv < gfxfile
change the image then
ls | cpio -ov > ../gfxfile
I dont remember the steps but somethink like this xd
