Hi, Lia. And 'Welcome' to the kennels.

Who needs a splash screen? It doesn't actually perform any useful function.....and Pup, being lightweight, is all about functionality. You can't really expect all the pretty 'eye-candy' as standard, although you can install something like it later on, if you want to.

As long as Puppy boots up, and gets to the desktop, and everything works.....that's good enough for me. I couldn't care less what everything looks like up until that point...

Hi Lia :-)
The puppy logo IS the splash screen.
After puppy boots to desktop - you can choose your own background-image by right-clicking desktop - choose Desktop-->JWM Desk manager. Here you can choose background image. To use your own, save images in /usr/share/backgrounds.

Yes, after installing puppy with grub4dos the splash screen disappears.
But its easy to get a splash screen on the grub4dos menu - check out

The one u saw when booting is in a logo-format - but I made an xpm-file here - just put that file in same place as menu.lst (click harddrive-icon - and there u are) - then open menu.lst and erase the # before splashimage=/splash.xpm
