Special thanks to the Carolina team for inspiring, letting me use their work, and their advice. To Phil and the WoofCE team for creating such a stable base, I'm terrible with hardware problems so it's very fortunate XenialPup has just been working with everything!

I am hoping this puplet can be a viable option for those that love Carolina, but have hardware that requires a newer base, or simply for folks that would like to use new versions. That in mind, I've tried to include the same main applications Carolina offered as well as similar interfaces.

Thank you also to Marv, Belham and the rest of the community for your support be it with actions, words or previous works built on. I've been wanting to release something for some time, but the kind words really motivated and encouraged me so thank you guys.

Gimp and Audacity aren't preincluded, but they are favorites of mine and the first thing I reach to install in any Puplet.

Download gimp-2.8.16.pet

I was inspired by the "xfce monitor bug" pic :lol:

Afgs and our other Puppy artists have done an amazing job on the old logo thread. I thought it would be nice to have variations of our logo like the other distros have and that thread is a gold mine.

Click for fullsize or you'll just get a tiny 600px image.

Bravo battleshooter :!:
I'm up north with my pooch kayaking and hiking and these words are about all the sorta wireless will do at a time. So, Hurrah and Bravo too.
Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.

Just did a quick test.

All looks good, except I went to install a printer. CUPS doesn't come up from the control panel.

@p310don

False tar.gz, rename and copy to /usr/bin I forgot to add the "$@" to the wrapper so arguments weren't being passed on. :oops:

@Marv Thanks! Enjoy your day out Marv

@zagreb999

Maybe Okular as a side project, KDE libs are a whole other beast. Can't see myself ever adding it to the main iso.

There's a remaster wizard but I haven't used it and I'll confess I haven't looked at the dogs of the forum at all though I hear good things about them.

That didn't work for some unknown reason. Changing the original firefox file to have the "$@" at the end, so seemingly identical to the attachment works fine.

Hey Battleshooter.

Does this use the same kernel sources & devx as xenial? Where can I get them? I want to compile a couple of programs to see if this suits as a total replacement for carolina VG.

Just downloaded and frugal install on Dell Latitude 3350 Core i3-5005U laptop. All working nice and smooth. No Wifi initially, had to install firmware iwlwifi-7265D-29.ucode to get wifi working.

Really nice job battleshooter. This is a keeper, Thanks for your work on this release.

Yessir, same as Xenial, I thought about splitting the dev files, but decided it wasn't worth it. Let me know if there are any small programs that are in Carolina that you'd like included that I've missed.

I just noticed Phil uploaded a new devx, I'm not sure what that means, but I'm currently using this one devx_xenialpup64_7.0.8.5.sfs

Cool! And thanks for the heads up about the firmware, I'll add it to the next release

Edit: I forgot I changed the kernel, I'll upload the source

Just wanted to post that if anyone needs a broadcom wireless wl.ko that Ozsouth just made the latest one for Xenial64. The thread & link is here;

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 305#972305

Just put it in Battleshooter's super xenialpup on another laptop, and voila, I've now got wireless where previously I was stuck to lan.

P.S. Battleshooter, XenialPup64 with XFCE-4.12 is a keeper---one of the nicest pups I've ever used, and I think, I've darned near used them all over the past decade. It's great see XFCE be alive Geoffrey/rg66 on 32-bit and now you on this latest xenial. Funny think is, I've nearly gotten your XFCE pet working on anything 64-bit (outside of Slacko, of course). Thank you, again :wink:

Hi Battleshooter,

Hey, is it possible I could make an appeal to you here about this:

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 331#972331

I want to completely dump all the Xenial64 stuff because Phil is simply not supporting and hasn't been for many months now.

And I am stuck of getting the fixes for the wpa2 KRACK (that Ubuntu's been pushing out for over 8 days now).

Is there any chance you could have a look, see if you could to see if your skills could give us a fix? I provided a link on that msg thread (that I wrote to Phil).

It would be greatly appreciated. As things stand, for pups only (ddogs have the update/upgrade licked long ago), you are the only one keeping anything going with respect to true 64-bit and Xenial.

If we lose Xenial, and Peebe doesn't want to do true 64-bit, then the only options we'll have are Barry's EasyLinux and Slacko700 and going back to Ddogs.

Thank you for any consideration :wink:

Wonder if you tried this?

Click on orange "Download "wpasupplicant" 64-bit deb package"

Trying to download this Pup

#18 Post by Pete22 »

Hello Battleshooter,

I am very excited to try your new pup. I downloaded all the other files.
However, I can't get the iso. I have tried several times over the last few days.

Would you please check the download for me?

Pete.

@Pete22 Ahh yes, I'm seeing that. I started a Sourceforge account so hopefully that will solve my filehosting issues finally. Uploading right now, will have the link soon.

@Belham Hah, thank you for your kind words Belham. I'm surprised it works with other Pups, not surprised it doesn't work with Slacko. Phil has an convenient sym link with lib and lib64 so once doesn't have to use --libdir=/usr/lib64, but consequently pets made on a Phil system won't work on a Slacko system due to the difference in directories.

It looks like we're in luck regarding Xenial development since Phil is back...woohoo! :D

I'll start working on a new iso based on the new Xenial right away 8)
