Users, don't let your colleagues without answer when they are using Puppies after install, install, install.. Install in forum is the leitmotiv..
My purpose this morning is to list applications using Mplayer. Mpv is one of them. Bookmarked.

Close miss. I've set 'a' to flip/mirror mpv and Ctrl-a to flip back again (handy for those vids where subtitles are mirrored)You can use Shift+A to change the asprect ratio

Pupjibaro stretching puppy
Gnome-MPV is the default mediaplayer in Pupjibaro stretching puppy para los americanos (South).
Helpful info how to use it (just above). Merci les gars.
Terminal speaks English, no se entiende nada !
Only rich people can go to school a long time to learn English enough to understand those topics, so helpful. Could the terminal information be translated in Spanish, and french in a hurry ?

MPV for francophones and xenialpup 7
MPV for francophones and xenialpup 7 see topic here Voir article Musher ici "Le lecteur mpv-0.14 pour xenialPup-7
La version la plus récente au moment d'écrire ces lignes"
You could had Xenial in the topic title, latest version are 0.26 via PPM and 0.27 is released (tested with Artfulpup, the newest flavour by PeeBee, valid up to april 2018).
72MB are needed in Artfulpup Pet for precise works, only 7MB (tested only with video MP4). Sure version is only 0.14 but it does what i need. I don't need sophisticated stuff.
However Gnome-mplayer will be enough ((yet included, VLC deleted)
It was a try For Artfulpup. mpv-20150814-git-i686-precise.pet: 7569 K

mpv media player for Xenialpup
Just a link to musher0's package and instructions: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 983#973983.
Although it was built for xenialPup-7.0.6 32-bits with kernel 4.1, AFAIK it is not kernel dependent and should work in any Xenialpup. Untested. Take proper precautions.
Thanks musher0.

My pleasure!, mikesLr
A bit of a comment, if I may.
The package should run on all 32-bits xenialPup-7 's, since it is dependent on the C
library (and not on the kernel version, as you mention), and all 32-bits xenialPup-7 's
use the same C library. (Ubuntu GLIBC 2.23)
Now, I stand corrected: v. 0.14 of mpv is not the latest; on their github page, the
latest version is v. 0.27. However, in the xenial ubuntu repos, in the PPM and at
pkgs.org/xenial_xerus, the only pre-compiled version offered is v. 0.14.
I did give compiling v. 27 a try, but it is "dependency hell" as the expression goes.
I stopped at "purgatory"! , meaning: I stopped before I got in over my head and
totally messed up my current xenialPup.
To do a good job of compiling this large and complex application, I feel you have to
take a pristine xenialPup, and spend the next 18 hours straight on the project.
BFN.

Artfulpup provides only version 0.26, nothing to compile.
Artfulpup provides only version 0.26, nothing to compile (Sorry).
The question would be why to install mpv if Vlc or Gnome-mplayer yet available..
So many MBs for minimalist guy.. and pleasure to type commands in terminal.. Why not, that makes a difference between people.
remember : mpv-20150814-git-i686-precise.pet: 7569 K does the job, everywhere, xenial, zesty, artful ... Bionic ?
Version 0.14 available from PPM, but not trimmed by a Puppy expert. , those who kept puppy light providing pets ready for use.

Why choose mpv over vlc or mplayer (for movies), or even deadbeef (for music)?
All do well the basic job of playing music and movies.
It's a matter of preference for the user, (S)he may like a certain feature from media
player X that media player Y does not offer.
As for me, I find that mpv is more responsive than mplayer. With mplayer, you
always have to wait for the cache to fill up before anything starts playing. Not the
case with mpv, and not with vlc either. Also, to access the power of mplayer (it is
indeed quite powerful), you need a Ph.D. in mplayer settings. Mplayer had so many
of them, it makes you dizzy -- and you don't understand what most of them mean.
Less so with mpv. Mpv has an automatic detection algorithm I suppose, it is much
less tedious to play a dvd movie with it. You type < mpv dvd:// > and that's it.
One thing that mpv has over vlc is when playing a radio stream in cli mode. Mpv
shows the title and the name of the composer and/or performer, whereas cvlc does
not.
I thought vlc's ncurses version, nvlc, could be a solution. It is very responsive, the
sound plays right away, but it has awful colors, and you can't find where to change
them. You see there's something written in a table, but you can't read it because of
the weird choice of colors. On the other hand, mpv uses the default console colors,
so that the metadata is easy to read.
Both vlc and mplayer have a problem playing certain movies. I'm not sure why
mplayer will play this movie and balk out of playing that other one, which on the other
hand, vlc will play gladly. In any case, mpv does not have that problem.
The only clue I have, I think (but I'm not sure), is the origin and date of the movie.
But mpv plays all movies, including classic B&W European movies, very well.
Again mpv is better than deadbeef (IMO) with radio streams, because in its list,
deadbeef squishes the name of the radio station with the title of the piece that's
playing. In deadbeef, if you listen to this station and that other one, you end up with
a list of music titles in the list, but you lose on which station you heard them. This
can get really confusing.
I set up a small aemenu for quick access to a few Internet radio stations that I like,
and mpv beat the competition hands down. It's quick, responsive and precise in such
a context. I experimented with mplayer, cvlc and sox-play for this menu: cvlc and
sox-play do not show the title and performer, and mplayer is not even in the race
because of the cache-fill delay.
Finally, mpv and the smplayer interface make a solid high-performance tandem, which
weighs less, in Mb's, than the alternative mplayer plus smplayer.
Again, it comes down to what you want out of your media player. But I'm finding mpv
more and more interesting. I wish the mpv devs good continuation.
