Desktop icons disappeared. How to get them back?

#1 Post by JFB »

I'm running Tahrpup 6.0.5. I had a power failure; now my desktop icons are missing. Can someone please tell me how to restore the desktop icons? Thanks...

Quick idea... reload the CD and boot.

You just need to replace one file : 'globicons' from /root/Choices/ROX-Filer/globicons with original or backuped one .

a trick that worked for me a few times:
open Menu->Desktop->JWMDeskmanager and select Icon Layout
then select Tradional Full Icon layout and click "Apply" button.

yft77,

What Puppy picture?
Are you talking about the image for the desktop background?
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

i was talking about the default background pic of the two puppies.

anyway i fixed it - all you have to do is when you're at JWM Desk, just click on background and select the one you want.

Delete the icon cache an let it rebuild.

Hi, people.

I got into the habit of making periodical back-ups of file
/root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/ROX-Filer/globicons
since it grows, adding the icons you place (and remove) on your ROX
desktop and in the ROX panels, if you use ROX panels.

There is another globicons file at /root/Choices/ROX-Filer, but it has
no effect on the desktop icons.

Then, if you run into the "no desktop icons" situation -- it may happen
for a number of reasons --, all you have to do is open a console and
type (or copy and paste from here)

Code: Select all

cp /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/ROX-Filer/globicons.bak /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/ROX-Filer/globicons
rox -p ~/Choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin
# maybe
# rox -l < name of your ROX left panel file >
# rox -t < name of your ROX top panel file >
# etc., if you are using the ROX panels.
and you have your desktop back.

IHTH.
