What is a mount point?

When I plug in my e-reader (KOBO) it shows on the desktop as a usb icon labeled "sdb KOBOeReader ..... Is this the "mount point"?

It should be a shortcut to the mount point which is actually located at "/mnt/sdb?"
You can get the specifics by running the "mount" command from a console window.
