Pup... watch? puppylinux arm on a samsung gear 2 (chroot)

#1 Post by samedog »

i was bored and managed to get puppy arm on a samsung gear 2 (wich uses android 6.0.1 instead of tizen because reasons), the screen resolution is a 320x320 hell, xorg "just works" but it doesn't actually "clicks" on tap, everything from /etc/profile and .xinitrc is broken beyond salvation... But at least is a fun proof of concept for puppy on a smartwatch

Have you tried usng the desktop via VLC? That seems to be what a lot of versions of linux do which run on android.

the problem with the gear 2 is the no wifi nor bluetooth network capabilities, it's completely isolated from the outside world unlike my other puppy + phone experiments (galalxy s3, s4 and moto e4 plus) this one HAS to be used on the device screen

But you still should be able to connect via VLC using localhost (AKA the loopback device)......although this didn't exist in older android devices but if it doesn't there is a way to add it.

I forget which one of these

I'm 99% sure it's the first one, has a way of adding the loopback device if it doesn't exist.

but what would be the point to install vnc on the gear since it's able to communnicate only with itself?[/quote]

If you don't have a desktop that is well suited to the small screen size and touch screen like display of android then the VLC might help you interact with it. On another note, from the pictures it looks like you have a USB connection. You can do networking over USB on an android device.

This might be related to networking over USB
