+7T delta applied, md5sum correct. Installed to the i5 based laptop both as a pristine (frugal Grub4Dos set up wrt timezone etc., SNS wifi, some theme fiddling, EXT2 savefile creation and reboot) and as an update to my +6T savefile. Both boot and run cleanly. No CPU race condition in LibreOffice 5.3.7. Kernel inches forward wrt patches. kpti patches on board (meltdown mitigation). Lfence count (spectre 1 variant mitigation) is up from 46 in 4.14.14 to 67 in 4.14.15. Target seems to be 70?? As in 4.14.14, kernel is retpoline aware but needs a retpoline compiler yet. No changes in benchmarks seen from 4.14.14 on identical hardware, LxPupSc 18.01 in both cases. Posting from Light on the pristine/newsavefile pup.

On my AMD desktop there is a "do_IRQ: 0.55" message but boot seems to complete successfully.

On my Intel laptop there is no do_IRQ message and I get:

Up and running (in the experimental bootslot

) on the intel i5 based laptop. md5sum correct, no do_IRQ message, and meltdown and spectre 2 mitigation confirmed. No spectre 1 yet as you got. I ran an older version of the meltdown checker offline to do an Lfence count and it got 63. It's target is 70 for spectre 1 mitigation. I don't know what the kernel folks use as adequate for a mitigation for spectre 1. Timed out for now, off to the vet. More checks later. First kernel I've seen with spectre 2 mitigation

edit: Quickly tested performance delta of the full retpoline kernel vs the kpti kernel, both LxPupSc 64-bit kernels on LxPupSc 18.01, same hardware and governor setup etc. I used 3 run averages of glxgears, CPU Cryptohash, and FPU Raytracing in both setups. The changes I see on the i5 laptop above going to the full retpoline kernel from the kpti/retpoline enabled kernel were:
glxgears FPS: -7%
CPU Cryptohash: -19%
FPU Raytracing: -18%
Seems clearly some but not unmanageable or out of line with what I see pup-to-pup on the same hardware. I use a little script here in my common applications bin to access the sysFS info to save my pore brain remembering where to grep..

LxPupSc-18.02T-k64 is a 32-bit woof-ce 'testing' branch build with a 64-bit kernel (therefore only compatible with 64-bit capable processors)

**N.B. the 64-bit kernel means that any kernel drivers have to be built in a true 64-bit system - slacko64 with the LxPupSc kernel and it's own devx is suggested but use the kernel sources above

Delta downloaded and applied. md5sum of 18.02 iso correct. Installed as pristine fugal Grub4Dos and update of 18.01 +8T savefile both on my i5 laptop above and on one of my core 2 duo laptops. Video, SNS wifi connection, sound, DVD and CD autoplay, lidsuspend, fujitsu brightness buttons, redshift, your slimmie-as-spot from SFS all fine on both machines. Vulnchecker shows meltdown and spectre 2 mitigation in place, as in the experimental 4.15.0 kernel in 18.01 +8T. Interestingly, running quick glxgears, CPU Cryptohash, and FPU RayTracing benchmarks (exact same hardware, governors, 3 runs, i5 only) shows results much better than the 4.15.0 kernel and 18.01 +8T. The hardinfo benchmarks pretty much match those in the kpti/non retpoline kernel and glxgears FPS is actually up 7% over the kpti only runs. Don't know what to attribute that to but in general for me performance degradation continues to be a non-issue. The kernel also swapped into and run on ArtfulPup, LxArtfulPup, and Battleshooters XFCE xenialpup64 on both the i5 and core 2 duo laptops. Most current version of all those pups and no issues noted. My wife is going to use LxPupSc 18.02 on the core 2 duo and see how it goes. Windows 10 refusing to play some of her DVDs was the last

straw. Should save some of my 7 remaining hairs.

Interim delta +1 to LxPupSc-18.02+1T-k64.iso downloaded and applied. md5sum correct. Installed pristine Grub4Dos and as an update to 18.02 on the i5 based laptop. No problems seen in either wrt the usual boot, SNS wifi connection on the ath9 driver card, video, sound etc. The same meltdown and spectre 2 mitigation as the 4.14.16 kernel. Ran the three benchmarks above and this kernel shows better than the 4.14.16 on the i5. glxgears +9% over the kpti only kernel, CPU Cryptohash and FPR RayTracing both +2 to 3% over the kpti only kernel/1801 combination. Having measured a bunch of these on the same setup I'd put my measurement error at a percent or two. At any rate, not a problem here. Just for variety since I hadn't done it in quite a while, I set up an USB 2.0 flashdrive with this LxPupSc from scratch. Reformatted an older 4Gb drive with a 1 Gb vfat partition and the balance as an EXT2 data partition using gparted, set the boot flag on the first, and used the Puppy Installer with 100% default options. Booted perfectly. Threw the savefile from the SDD setup on it, rebooted, added your Slimjet-as-spot SFS, added the appropriate profiles (Sylpheed, Spot for the Slimjet, and QTWebBrowser) to the data partition, changed the symlinks to point there and used pmount to set the second partition to mount on boot. The only real hint that it is USB 2.0 based is lack of lidsuspend (part of stock suspend.sh script) and the shutdown time if I elect to save. Usually don't anyway. Posting from that install and Slimmie now.

Still working on breaking this one

with the latest Slackware Current updates....

glibc-2.27 causes locale problems and pcmanfm displays some directories with .desktop files in random order.....

libcdio-2.0.0 is essential for gvfs-1.34.2 but kills mplayer - and a rebuild of mplayer with the new libs fails to play dvd's....

So have had to revert these updates for 18.02+2 but this is not viable long term as these updates are needed....

Just to clarify, these issues weren't in 18.02 +1 right? I didn't see them there in my quick testing and the glibc and gvfs #s seem to confirm that. They showed up during your testing of +2? Just trying to keep up on multiple installs/computers

Edit: Downloaded +2 and plugged the 4.14.18 kernel into my 18.02 +1 to quickly check the mitigation status. Looking better wrt spectre v1 mitigation.

On the locale problem, try ram/1st run or new save file. On JL64,
C library warnings only appeared with old save file.

The mplayer update requires updated samba and ffmpeg, talloc, tdb and tevent. In JL64, no dvd autoplay. Manually plays dvd's but no sound. Parole & mpv still work ok with the glibc/cdio/gvfs (etc) slackware-current updates. Something else is missing or we'll have to wait on another mplayer update.

Locale problem with glibc-2.27 sorted by tweaking the glibc_locales package template to NOT delete /usr/share/i18n/locales/i18n_ctype ..... woof-ce pull request initiated on github

If using an existing savefolder it is probably best to regenerate your locale - I can PM instructions if needed.

libcdio mplayer problem fixed by including both libcdio.so.16.0.0 and libcdio.so.18.0.0 plus the version of libcdio-paranoia needed by libcdio.so.16

dmesg is showing a crash in cfg80211.....might be something to do with the crda update or maybe the dhcpcd update from earlier....doesn't seem to affect wireless networking that I can see....

Well, chromium won't start. In terminal:

chown: /root/spot/Downloads/*: No such file or directory
# EXIT="Exit on timeout"

I run LxpupSc without savefile (I just boot it, connect to internet and load sfs on-the-fly).

The /usr/bin/chromium script shows:

Do I need the 32-bit compatibility sfs? If so, where to download it? I tried to run sfsget but it is not listed.

Your terminal command is wrong - should be just chromium....not chromium-browser

No need for any 32-bit compatibility sfs - LxPupSc is a 32-bit system just the kernel is 64-bit.

There will be no /root/spot/Downloads directory if you have no savefolder....

Chromium works just fine here.....

The LxpupSc version is the one with 4.13.4 kernel (maybe I downloaded it in december 2017).

The Chromium version is the one found at https://sourceforge.net/projects/lxpup/ ... /browsers/

On my Laptop with Celeron N3050 Chromium install doesn't work as in my previous post.

On another desktop PC with intel Core-i3 I downloaded and booted the latest LxpupSc kernel 4.14.16-lxpup64 and the same chromium.sfs works well.

I will investigate further and I will try to install the latest LxpupSc to the Celeron laptop.

I didn't know this! So 64bit packages won't work in LxpupSc, I have to search for 32 bit ones!

Your cpu may not be adequate for the newest Chromiums....
