mypaint and external app list

#1 Post by don570 »

It possible to use the mypaint paint application on a 64 bit puppy linux distro and edit a layer in an external program such as mtpaint or GIMP.

This is shown in a Youtube video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jFTzoHnPmA&nohtml5=1

I have found that to edit a layer externally in Puppy linux requires a small addition.

Instructions:
Download mypaint 64 bit version 1.3
Available:

MyPaint-1.3.0-git.0b19fce.glibc2.15-x86_64.AppImage
Size: 54mb

Next step:

Download mimeinfo.zip and extract the file 'mimeinfo.cache'
and place it in the folder /usr/share/applications/

Next follow the instructions given in the youtube video
i.e. select the mypaint layer and right click select "Edit layer in External app'

A list of possible apps should appear. (see image)
TIP:Remember to save the file in png format with your external app.

Yes. It lacks the ability to do resizing or scaling so it needs an external app
such as GIMP or mtpaint.
