Subject description: Trouble with kernel 4.4.116 and 4.4.118

I have been running a 32 bit, slackware 14.2 based pup with kernel 4.4.93 since October without any problems.

Last week I built 32 and 64 bit versions of the same pup with kernel 4.4.116 on different computers. Both versions hang while shutting down or rebooting. Everything else with the build is fine.

Today I made a new 32 bit build using slackware 14.2 and the 4.4.93 kernel. No problems with shutdown and everything works fine.

When trying to compile the 4.4.118 kernel in kernel-kit, make errors appear before compiling begins:
Quote:
make[1]: warning: clock skew detected. Your build may be incomplete.

I tried to compile the kernel on both of the computers that were used to build the pups with the 4.4.116 kernel last week. No errors were reported with the 4.4.116, only the hang at shutdown.

Can anyone confirm if these problems are being introduced with the newer kernels.

Thank You

I had the same problem with 3.18.95 compiled with kernel-kit in slacko 14.0 (hangs on shutdown, when trying to unmount drives or files I think)... but 3.18.93 and earlier shut down fine with the same puppy, and has always been quite reliable for me. Guessing that if 4.4.118 has the issue too then 3.18.96 will as well, as they were uploaded the same day, so I'll probably wait until 3.18.97 comes out to try compiling it again then.

Thank you for the reply.

The 116 kernel had the shutdown hang. After clicking no on the save session dialog box, it would proceed to:

Quote:
puppy linux 1.1.1.1 is shutting down...

and then it would just freeze there. Pressing ctrl-alt-del would cause the system to reboot.

The 118 kernel caused the time skew issue, but I will not be able to try to find a solution until the weekend.

Thanks again.

Built 32 and 64 bit slackware 14.2 based puppies, with kernel 4.4.119. No problems compiling the kernel or with shutting down.

Remastered both and did not encounter any problems.
