How to create a desktop icon?

#1 Post by mpmackenna »

I am sure this is documented somewhere, but I am having trouble finding it. so here it goes... how do I create a desktop icon? A shortcut to an app or a document...

If someone could just point me to the documentation that would be great, or if you feel like typing, that works too.

Thanks,
Mike

The easy way is to open a rox-filer window find the program and drag to desktop.

so if the program or file is in /root/my-documents

open rox go to that directory and drag some where on desktop

to remove from desktop

right click on desktop icon and select "Remove item(s)" from the menu and it's gone.

That seems to work...but doesn't it make a copy of a file, rather than a link or shortcut? Or is that just my windows prejudice showing?

Off to check the Wiki - BRB

Neither. It adds an entry to a text file. In Pizzapup and older Puppies it's located at /root/Choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin. I haven't used the newer Puppies yet, so I don't know if Barry continued with that convention when he updated Rox. It's probable though.
