Hopefully fonts are fixed - please test .otf and .woff particularly
+ UBB updates including removal of openslp "an open-source implementation of the IETF Service Location Protocol" with no bad effects as far as I can determine....

Hi Peebee

according to the actual msg at Distrowatch, the publication of the stable version is now only a question of a few days.

peebee wrote:
How-to build ArtfulPup....

1. Use a recent 32-bit Puppy installation...
2. with devx loaded
3. with an internet connection
4. Get woof-CE - in a terminal run:
Code:
git clone https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/woof-CE.git -b testing

5. Download artful/ folder; in the terminal run:
Code:
wget -r -np -R "index.html*" http://smokey01.com/peebee/artfulpup/woof-distro/x86/ubuntu/artful/
6. Move /smokey01.com/peebee/artfulpup/woof-distro/x86/ubuntu/artful folder to: /woof-CE/woof-distro/x86/ubuntu/
7. Change directory to /woof-CE; in a terminal run
Code:
./merge2out
      target architecture 2 - x86
      compat-distro 5 - ubuntu
      release 1 - artful
8. Change directory to /woof-out_x86_x86_ubuntu_artful; delete all files Packages-Puppy-*-Official
9. In a terminal run:
Code:
./0setup
./support/findpkgs
10. Check FINDPKGS-NOT-FOUND and /status/findpkgs_FINAL_PKGS-ubuntu-artful are OK
11. Move /woof-out_x86_x86_ubuntu_artful/rootfs-packages.conf to folder /woof-out_x86_x86_ubuntu_artful/support/
12. Download kernel from:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/lxpup/files/Other/huge-kernels/huge-4.9.59-lxpup.tar.bz2/download
and then move kernel to /woof-out_x86_x86_ubuntu_artful/huge_kernel/
13. Make folder /sandbox3 if it doesn't exist; download 4 files from:
http://smokey01.com/peebee/artfulpup/drv-sfs/
and then move adrv, fdrv, ydrv and README-extra_sfs to /sandbox3
14. Now the lengthy bits... in a terminal run:
Code:
./1download
./2createpackages
./3builddistro-Z

Notes:
Step 12 - other huge-kernels can be used; lxpup kernels require the fdrv (step 13); other huge-kernels may have firmware in the zdrv.

can that methode be considered as yet optimised for Bionic Beaver stable?

or are you perhaps doing somewhat concrete in that direction as Beaver have to become an LTS, very important for puppy (puppy is very ill now not to take under consideration the difference between Debian staying disponible long years ago, or Ubuntu LTS's and poor one-night Ubuntu's Wink only to try or get a bit more experience. The 8.10 of Jennie (started 26th April 2015! Like the in Puppy completely forgotten Vivid!) did be published only in Dec. 2017 after continous developement, is now for years old stable until the parution of the coming new stable and stay accessible long time after that as archived very old stable release each time accessible on the cheap DVD collections as binaries as well as sources...

(surprising is the poor enthousiasm for those releases in contrast with the long time of possible prestations...)

It would appear that the devx can not be unloaded on the fly. Only at restart.
Is not clear what keeps it busy as lsof and aufs do not plau well together to find the exact loop/mount-point open files are coming from.

Is it just me, or have others noticed the renaming of "eth0" in Upup-Bionic-Beaver? Mine is now "enp3s0".
Has anyone found a way to avoid this renaming?

Hello gyro,

net.ifnames=0 on the kernel line should force naming as eth0

Thanks.
I just tried adding "net.ifnames=0" and "biosdevname=0" to the kernel line, and that worked, I'll try with just "net.ifnames=0"

Edit, later:
Yes, adding just "net.ifnames=0" worked.

Updated devx

- ETP's missing links squished (light can be ignored)
- basic GTK+3 put into .iso - "full" GTK+3 added to devx
(however Glade still does not run - seems to want Wayland!!)
- font icons fixed
- there are cc links in the devx but they seem to be in the wrong place

Hi all.

It looks like the problem with Glade not running is mainly because Glade was compiled with GTK3 libraries, not the default GTK4 in bionic beaver. I haven't tried rebuilding Glade for GTK4, but did use Puppy's Package Manager to install GTK3 requirements. So fire up the PPM, and let's go to town!

Step 1 - Install GTK3 (not GTK4)
libgtk-3-common_3.22.29-3ubuntu1_all.deb
libgtk-3-bin_3.22.29-3ubuntu1_i386.deb
libgtk-3-0_3.22.29-3ubuntu1_i386.deb

Step 2 - Install Wayland
libwayland-cursor0_1

Step 3 - Install GTK webkit
libwebpdemux2_0.6.1-2_i386.deb
libwebkitgtk-3.0-0_2.4.11-3ubuntu3_i386.deb
libsecret-common_0.18.6-1_all.deb
libsecret-1-0_0.18.6-1_i386.deb
libjavascriptcoregtk-4.0-18_2.20.1-1_i386.deb
libhyphen0_2.8.8-5_i386.deb
libgstreamer-gl1.0-0_1.14.0-2ubuntu1_i386.deb
libegl1-mesa_18.0.0~rc5-1ubuntu1_i386.deb

Step 4 -Install Icons
gnome-icon-theme-symbolic_3.12.0-2_all.deb
gtk-update-icon-cache_3.22.29-3ubuntu1_i386.deb

This is not an all inclusive list, since I am still testing. More icons are definitely needed.

PostPosted: Tue 17 Apr 2018, 17:22    Post subject: lxrandr is not working properly
Subject description: delta6 iso of bionic beaver

Lxrandr is not working as expected on bionicPup. In a HMDI monitor plugged to a laptop, the adjustments made by the user are not respected. The user needs to close lxrandr once he or she has applied the adjustments to make them permanent, otherwise, the adjustments will revert back; however, lxrandr stops responding to click events once the monitor(s) turn off and then back on with the adjustments applied, hence, it is not possible to close the software to make the changes permanent.
A way to “solve” this is by killing the lxrandr window, if you kill the window the changes are respected.
