Installing GRUB to superblock, not MBR

#1 Post by Jazzzy »

I've installed Puppy to ext2fs partition but grubconfig didn't work for me.
This command just do nothing, even when chrooted from other partition.
I've tried to install Grub from Puppy's menu but the whole configuration disappears just after adding Linux partitions to grub header. I need Grub installed to Puppy's partition superblock but as for now I have no idea how to do it.

Are you not installing GRUB to the MBR?

this may or may not be relevant, but i've found that accepting the defaults (i mean not actually typing in /dev/hda3, for example) causes the errors that you're describing.

so, if it helps, manually type in the patrition. if you are already doing so, disregard the above.

i tried installing grub to the MBR using the defaults, and it wouldn't work. i tried 4 times, before as a last resort I actually typed in /dev/hda1.

then it worked :)

I won't install to MBR ! I typed /dev/hda11 which in my case is Puppy's partition but I can't get to this step with 'install grub'

I just ran grubconfig again and it didn't work.

I enjoy helping people out on this forum. But in the case of grubconfig not working, I'm very inclined to accept the complaints at face value, based on my own experience of it not working for me.
