????? :?

There isn't a 'start-up password'. Or shouldn't be (unless, of course, you gave it one when you installed it.....)

Yes?

What specific version of Puppy??????????
Is it one of the Fatdogs?

Are you asking about the normal boot up root password or one used by some boot loader you use?

The better answer to your question is why do you think you need to change it?

In general to change the root password.

To change root password, open a terminal and enter:

Code: Select all

passwd root
it will ask you to enter twice the new password.

The root default password is hard coded into a lot of the boot process. Changing it may require you to have to enter it manually, each time you boot.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

There may be passwords at different levels, especially if you changed the actual hardware password at power on.

We would need to know at what point it is asking for one.

xenialpup 7.5 should be booting and not ask for a password.

So, not sure what password it is asking for at boot up.

We would need to know at what point it is asking for one.

Did you make a encrypted save?
That would require a password during the boot up.

It sounds like he set the hardware boot password for the machine which would be needed before it will power up.

There is no legal way of bypassing that, and posting instructions on how to do it is NOT a good idea on an open forum.
He may have quite honestly forgotten his password, but the bypass instructions would apply to anyone and could lead to serious breaches of security.

puppi

we do not understand what password you are talking about

by default puppy does not use passwords as it is a run as root system

when you tell us what password you changed with the details asked above somebody will be able to help

so what puppy linux

what password

etc. etc.
