Re: Revised upload of upupbb-18.05.iso

#22 Post by ETP »

Hi peebee,

Thanks for this new Pup which is running great with the lowest blowfish score (2.87) that I have yet seen.
It was tested with a fresh frugal install to a 3 partition 16GB USB3 stick with the main files on the 3rd f2fs partition.
There were no problems with ethernet, sound or the save folder.

Not finding any significant issues left me free to concentrate on getting vlc 3.0.1 32-bit working which is available in the PPM.
I have posted about that here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 188#990188
Regards ETP

Possible bug:

The following packages are listed as installed (in woof-installed-packages), but their files are not in /usr/lib/:

libva-drm2_2.1.0-3
libva-x11-2_2.1.0-3

This causes Blender (and possibly other packages) to fail to install, for both PetGet and Pkg.

Good catch - thanks - dates back to 221017 when all libva-* files were removed "in the wrong way"....(due to missing dependencies)

They will be removed "in the right way" (by editing DISTRO_PKGS_SPECS-ubuntu-bionic appropriately) in the 1st delta.

Meanwhile I'll ask for the Woof-CE version to be updated.

Ok minimal report
/usr/local/bin/defaultterminal dont have a default icon
can't find the mini-Desktop-settings.xpm then dont show the icon in the menu
In the first run the systray cpu temp icon dont show it, need to restart X
where is the "recently used" icon location in "places"
the icon for the menu and places ( the puppy face logo) is the same, how can change it?
as always, simple and fast, like this puppy.

sanity check has failed

#27 Post by kunerich »

I wanted to install Upub 18.05 frugal with Universal installer on a new formated HDD...
But there seems to be a problem:

Oh dear, a sanity check has failed
This file: /initrd//puppy_upupbb_18.05.sfs does not exist.
The above is supposed to be path-to-where-puppy-files-are/puppy_upupbb_18.05.sfs
Click OK button to quit...

I created a fresh CD from ISO in a normal way. (Windows - AnyBurn)
Computer is really old. (Medion MD 8008) It accepts only 32bit. And it only boots from cd...
None of the boot parameters helps...

Posted question yesterday here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 598#990598
Don"t know how to delete ....

Sometimes the main sfs is not found depending on odd hardware and software environment. In such cases I managed to boot the iso file using grub2. But you can try another way because I suppose you have windows on your machine. My suggestion is to try Lick:

Check your path

#29 Post by hamoudoudou »

"The above is supposed to be path-to-where-puppy-files-are/puppy_upupbb_18.05.sfs "
Check your path // seems to miss directory between / and /
initrd /DDPstretch/initrd.gz
LICK was tried It works well, easy to install.... But dangerous? i don't know.. Not enough feed back about it.
Keep on with classical methods a little bit.. Did you opened ISO with all needed parts in a directory ?

md5 given is for the "new" 18.05 ISO after generation - NOT the delta.....
wow I never thought to check that. Would have saved some neurons.

Hi.

Booted into upupbb 18.05.

Screenshot: wallpaper changed by N.E.M.E.S.I.S. at boot

I had to install (luckily I could download from my own version of tahr):

libpipeline1_1.5.0-1_i386.deb
usb-modeswitch_2.5.2+repack0-2ubuntu1_i386.deb
usb-modeswitch-data_20170806-2_all.deb

to be able to connect to the web via my gprs usb modem.

Luckily rerwins's PGPRS Connect package was installed by default.

Though, doesn't make sense to have it installed without the usb-modeswitch components - not meant to be offended. :)

I'd noticed this issue also in Xenial Pups, and Artful Pup. So, couldn't we just return to install usb-modeswitch plus rerwins's PGPRS Connect package by default at built (WoofCE?) ?

What's somehow funny is that the screen size is already set to 2560x1024 (both monitors acting as one screen), though both monitors are handled as two different desktops. So the desktop is switching when moving a window to another monitor. How can I change this?

save file problems

#32 Post by tlchost »

Running 18.05 on a dell laptop....booting form DVD with ext2 save file located on HD.

18.05 will create a save file...but does not recognize either a save file created by itself or one created by 18.04

18.04 creates and recognizes save file with no problems.

missing libmozgtk.so

#33 Post by tlchost »

running 18.04 from a live DVD on a Dell Laptop with an ext2 save file on the HD Tried to install seamonkey and receive this error message:

Code: Select all

06:13:27 ~ > seamonkey
XPCOMGlueLoad error for file /opt/seamonkey/libmozgtk.so:
libgtk-3.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Couldn't load XPCOM.
Same problem with thunderbird

Code: Select all

thunderbird
XPCOMGlueLoad error for file /opt/thunderbird/libmozgtk.so:
libgtk-3.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Couldn't load XPCOM.
Being technically challenged, I have no idea how and where to find the missing file.

Thunderbird/Seamonkeynot starting

#34 Post by backi »

Hi tichost !

Could not get Thunderbird running .

# thunderbird
XPCOMGlueLoad error for file /mnt/sda7/thunderbird/libmozgtk.so:
libgtk-3.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Couldn't load XPCOM.

So i installed libbgtk-3 with PPM --------now it works .

So i asked PeeBee ........Should`nt libgtk-3 better be installed by default ....?

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... &start=645

Regards !

I put together this "qt-4.8.7_bionic-18.05.sfs" for UPup bionic_beaver (upupbb) 18.05.

If anyone is interested, look here:

Errrrr - basic libgtk-3 has been in the build for some time:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 823#987823

Where are you getting Thunderbird from? If PPM then it pulls in all sorts of un-needed dependencies such as Wayland.....if it can't find libgtk-3 then this is likely to be a path problem....

I suggest to use the Slackware Current build:
http://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackware/ ... i586-2.txz

which runs without any additional dependencies.

18.04 creates and recognizes save file with no problems.
I'm not aware of any differences between 18.04 and 18.05 in this respect.
I never boot off DVD so have difficulty testing this report.....
All I can suggest is to add a psavedir= to the boot params (I think you type F2 during boot to do this....but someone will no doubt correct)

If anyone who does boot from DVD can test that would be appreciated.
