however, just to stay on-topic in this thread, let me clarify that "refracta" is a distro (by fsmithred) which is named for the refracta (remaster) tools-- also by fsmithred-- that EXTON uses for many of his remasters.
thats the only tie-in here, though i truly appreciate your reminder that someone here actually tried mkfigos.
the reason that i know exton uses refracta tools is that i asked him personally. i dont know if that tendency to use refracta tools extends to his puppy-based derivatives or not. i admit im very curious if refracta tools are viable for that. in fact, the only reasonable thing for me to do about this is just to ask him that, too. i will report back if/when i hear from him.

first of all i heard from arne exton, and he says that for remixing puppy he used the puppy remaster tools.
he also says that refracta is just for debian-based distros, and that is very possibly true. however debian and puppy both use isolinux, and both use squashfs, and i wouldnt be surprised if refracta tools could be made to work with puppy very easily. do you need it? no, but ive actually mixed puppy and debian isos together into one iso.

yes, robert storey died. he is not the author of fig, he is the person who helped me with the article about fig for distrowatch. since then ive put out new versions of fig: https://sourceforge.net/projects/figos/files/ -- fig 4.5 in december, and new versions of fig os (same link) just 2 1/2 weeks ago.
i would really appreciate it if you guys would stop confusing the two of us into a single person-- ive gotten phone calls asking if im ok because of this-- robert storey was almost certainly a better person than i am, and ive never even been to taiwan. thanks. and perdido: thank you for the welcome back. i have maintained some of the friendships i made here last time, but i am pleasantly surprised how many welcome backs ive gotten. ive also been in touch with ally your puppy iso archivist for the entire time since i left here and he can confirm that its me, if there are any doubts. cheers.
