I thought I would get playonlinux to work.

But I get this error: "PlayOnLinux is not supposed to be run as root. Sorry"

Any ideas on run it anyway?

open /usr/share/playonlinux/python/mainwindow.py

find these lines :

Code:
if(os.popen("id -u").read() == "0\n" or os.popen("id -u").read() == "0"):
wx.MessageBox(_("{0} is not supposed to be run as root. Sorry").format(os.environ["APPLICATION_TITLE"]),_("Error"))
os._exit(1)

and change them to :

Code:
# if(os.popen(“id -u”).read() == “0\n” or os.popen(“id -u”).read() == “0”):
# wx.MessageBox(_(“{0} is not supposed to be run as root. Sorry”).format(os.environ[“APPLICATION_TITLE”]),_(“Error”))
# os._exit(0)

now open -> /usr/share/playonlinux/lib/sources

and find the lines :

Code:
if [ "$(id -u)" = "0" ]
then
echo "PlayOnLinux is not supposed to be run as root. Sorry"
exit
fi

change them to :
Code:

#if [ "$(id -u)" = "0" ]
#then
#echo "PlayOnLinux is not supposed to be run as root. Sorry"
#exit
#fi

theoretically you should be able to start PlayOnLinux.

Thanks for this.
It does work on Fatdog64. Although tells me to install icoutils package for full functionality.

I have never used playonlinux.
I tried to install Need for speed Underground.
I thought it would download whole game from net.
But it asks me if I have CD/ DVD/digital download of game....

I did had CD of that game long time ago, But I can't find it now.
Will see how it goes.

Meanwhile I am playing World of Tanks Blitz, which I installed through Steam under Wine.

@ drunkjedi:-

DJ: Just FYI, I d'l'ed and tried to install/run a few versions of 'Need For Speed : Underground'. Without exception, they not only caused WINE to crash, but simultaneously locked Puppy up solid. The only way out was a 'hard' power-down... Rolling Eyes

You might be out of luck on that one, old son.

Thanks for the heads up Mike.

While installing Steam and World of tanks Blitz, I had to install .net and some more softwares through winetricks or it would hang (as per I read online).
Maybe some similar way is there for NFS.

I will check later, after finding my CD.
