Smokey01 has done the setup, no iso's have been loaded yet:darry19662018 wrote:Hi Wanderer.
I went to Smokey's site and could not see your iso's listed.

hi all
i have downloaded 3 isos to smokey01's site as a test
these are the 3 tinycore official isos that i began work on
they are
core 6.4.1
tinycore 6.4.1
coreplus 6.4.1
each is core or core + additional extensions
tinycore is now up to core 9
but everything that i have done can be applied to core 9 as well
if anyone wants to get a feel for the system
they can download these isos and play with them
i will now get the corepup iso ready
and load it as soon as it is ready
i think you will find this system is very elegant and powerful
as i have said merging puppy and tinycore
will make a system that capitalizes on the strengths of both
use the link in terry h's post above
since i haven't figured out how to put links in yet
cheers

Hi wanderer,
Thanks for the files.
CorePlus is at v. 9.0. Q.v.: http://www.tinycorelinux.net
Yours is at v. 6.4.1. Any particular reason for the lag? Easier to work with,
perhaps, from a Puppy standpoint? (This is not a criticism, I'm just asking.)
BFN.

good question
the difference in the versions is not relevant to the modifications
they can be applied unchanged to both versions
i work on both tc 6.4.1 and tc 9
but i have set up a more complete system on 6.4.1
since i have downloaded all the tcz i want for it over time
tc 9 has a newer kernel
thus will work on some newer hardware
some apps are updated
some scripts are tweaked
but they are essentially identical
that is the one of the wise choices tinycore has made
each version is just an improvement of the last
a continuous flow
things are not changed just to change things
if they are tested and proven to be superior over time
they are kept even if there is a newer version
also because of its modular design
applications can be swapped simply and easily
just by adding or removing a tcz (the equivalent of a puppy sfs)
they can even be added or not added
each time tinycore is booted
or when desired when tinycore is running
the core.gz ramdrive is only 6 megs
and can be opened and closed easily by cpio
and tcz are symlinked to it after it is loaded
it doesn't use a union fs
it uses busybox init
and a file tc-sysconfig which is equivelent to puppy's init file
all very simple
easy to access and modify
easy and straightforward to add to
play with and examine it
and you will soon see how well designed it it

hi all
i have also downloaded the official tinycore version 9 isos
it is human nature to think a newer version is better
as i said i am working on both 6.4.1 and 9
and also worked on the versions between
if you compare them you will see they are equivalent
the same system
newer kernel
updated apps
tweaked scripts
when they are ready
i will download the corepup variants
for both tc 6.4.1 and tc 9
as i said the modifications are interchangeable

Hi wanderer,
You need to put the http adress between url tags like ....
So for your Core-6.4.1.iso replace the .... above with: http://smokey01.com/wanderer/Core-6.4.1.iso
BTW, don't know what browser you use, I use a modern firefox and it's easier to just select the http adress and click on the URL button above, then it's done automaticlly.

these features are often sacrificed by people who speed up their browsing by turning javascript off whenever possible.fredx181 wrote:BTW, don't know what browser you use, I use a modern firefox and it's easier to just select the http adress and click on the URL button above, then it's done automaticlly.
and lots of people forget the url tags since most modern forum software automatically converts urls-- sometimes doing a good job, other times using url tags produces a better effect (with long or complex urls.)
i understand that corepup is not just puppy minus extras? it has other things added to it?
[color=green]The freedom to NOT run the software, to be free to avoid vendor lock-in through appropriate modularization/encapsulation and minimized dependencies; meaning any free software can be replaced with a user’s preferred alternatives.[/color]
corepup is a tinycore base
with modifications and puppy and other stuff added to it
hopefully combining the advantages of both
the reason is that tinycore
is a minimal and modular system
that allows modifications to be snapped in and out like leggos
puppy is great
but its system is difficult and time consuming to modify
especially with woof-ce
that takes a guru and many hours even to use
even the remaster programs take quite a bit of time
and lump everything together
so components are all intertwined
and cant be snapped in and out after they are meshed
corepup is for people that want a
simple and fast alternative to building a puppy like distro
components can be added and removed in seconds
rather than hours
and stay modular so they can be worked on independently
and reinserted later
thats why i started this project
so that the puppy community can be made aware
that there is an alternative system to build "puppies"
or whatever you want to call them
look at and play with one of the tinycore isos
in the link in the first post
and you will soon see what im talking about
well back to playing with corepup
good luck
