Hiya, David.

Well, I'm pleased to hear I've inspired you to do some of your own!

Like I said in the earlier post, I just got fed-up with looking at the same old icons (not that there's owt wrong wi' them), so I decided to flex my artistic muscles a wee bit, and come up with some I liked.

They're easy enough to do; the hardest part is making up the 'rims', since each straight edge has to be done separately in PhotoScape, then carefully aligned with the previous ones in a high-zoom shot (to get the alignment spot-on).

It's easy enough to open an Imgur account for images. For .pets, you can use DataFileHost; no registration, and things will remain up for around 6 months (longer if regularly accessed).

Be nice to share 'em!

Morning, all.

Just thought I'd share a couple of 'different' takes on the MPlayer icon.....which I put together a coupla weeks ago for Racy 5.5.

As always; 'Rt-clk->Save image as...'

PostPosted: Mon 11 Jun 2018, 20:44    Post subject: Coloured icons for mounted drives
Subject description: Pets of modified sets

G'day,

Thanks to forum member Subito Piano for hosting, downloadable pets are available for test and comment that I've made (with Gimp) of Mike Walsh's drive icon originals, modified to be more colourful for mounted drives. Coloured examples in each set are shown in the attachment.

Unmounted drive icons remain grey or at least relatively dull.

http://mysterdee.com/Puppy/Desktop-Drive-Icons_Set_4DS.pet

Install the pet then hover the cursor over the rows/columns of pinboard drive icons to see the result.

All being well, I'll add further pets using new drive images with colourful icons for mounted drives.

I'll also be reducing the size, slightly, of the unmounted drive icons to further enhance the visibility of the mounted drives.

I hope this will be useful for Pups on computers with many partitions and drives such that it's easier to find and click the drive wanted.

Comments and improvements most welcome.

The other day I was looking for some icon-sets for puppy. Some of my usual sources had disappeard so I hunted many packages down and uploaded them here:

Hi smokey,

Thanks a lot for the hard work you put in. I was especially impressed in that your accumulation provides a display of each of the icons in the set.

For a while I was puzzled about how to download a set. Then I clicked on one icon in a set expecting to download only it and was pleased that the entire set downloaded.

Y'know, it's not hard to understand why I often refer to my own sizeable collection of PNG icons as 'eclectic'.

At the time each one was sourced (either through Google or DuckDuckGo), it was for a specific purpose.....and I wanted an icon that would best represent what I needed it for.

I wasn't giving any thought at all to 'co-ordinating' or 'matching' it with anything else.

Rather goes with my own somewhat haphazard approach to computing in general..... Laughing

I'm trying to find a better way to display the icon sets. At the moment it displays all icon sets on a single web page which is great for viewing but uses a lot of bandwidth. I think it's useful to see all of the icons in the set. Maybe a better method might be to have text links but show a graphic when hovered.

Perhaps you could take screen captures of rox displaying each set in its own folder. You could play with rox zoom factor to show smaller icons. Once you have the screen captures, you could try converting them to gif fixed palette 64 colors, or even 32. Image quality will degrade a bit, but it isn't too bad. And file image size will go down significantly. Then create your html page with links to those gifs. Use a monochrome rox folder background, white is probably best.

Along the same lines, but with less manual work, you could use some photo software to create contact sheets for each rox folder. Then convert the contact sheets to gif as I explained.

Thanks step.

In the end I just converted all the images from png to jpg which brought the page size down from about 23M to just under 10M. It's not a place many people would visit all that often so I might just leave it alone.

Cheers

PostPosted: Sun 24 Jun 2018, 21:49    Post subject: Some more coloured mounted-drive icon pets
Subject description: Smaller pet as icons now 48x48

G'day,

Here are some more pets that change your desktop/pinboard drive icons to more colourful version when a drive is mounted.
This helps when there are many drives icons on a pinboard, to show which are mounted.
Install a pet and hover over the drive icons to see the new ones.

The attach jpg shows the mounted colours and drive images in each set.

I've been able to post these now much smaller pets on the forum.
Thanks to Subito Piano for again hosting these files on his site as per my first sets in my earlier post in this thread but I could not enter his links in this post - the 'Preview' option failed as soon as I added the links, so I'm assuming this meant the post as it was would fail Shocked .
I had this happen in two different browsers so there must have been something in the links text?
