I don't want to experiment . I always foul up something .
My save file on sda1 seems to be found straight away anyway.
I use a CD and boot from it so I suppose I can't use media=usbflash .
Is that right ?
Will it continue the search to CD and sda1 if I do use it?

Otherwise

The idea of the pmedia= is to tell the boot process what specific device to check for Puppy files.
It also tells the boot process what device Puppy is booting from.

Booting from a Puppy live CD.
The bootloader is on the CD.
The boot loader config file is on the CD.
The pmedia= entry is in that config file.
That is hard burned on the CD and cannot be changed.
It is set to pmedia=cd
That is how you want it.

If you make a Live Puppy USB flash drive install.
pmedia=cd is the default setup.
Changing it to pmedia=usbflash tells the boot process that Puppy is on a USB flash drive and to boot Puppy for running from a USB flash drive.
Also, to only look on the USB flash drive for Puppy stuff.

It also determines how often Puppy tries to save back to the media and when.
Using USBFLASH will make Puppy keep writes in the buffer as long as possible to minimise the actual number of write to the drive.
If you want to force saves more often because of the environment you are working in, use USBHD instead. It will still not write as often as it would to an internal drive.

When puppy Writes to the drives, it is stopped, like a car refueling.its speed is slow down.. Of course continuous writing would be stupid, and get your Puppy not better than any Linux.. Just good to programming.. No need of PAE or 64 bits then.
