Xenialpup can't read external hdd

#1 Post by boof »

Have 10yo hdd with OpenSuSe 11.0 and puppy 6.4(?) files and data. 32 bit.

My 64bit xenial pup 7.5 won't read external hdd Shows hdd 160 Western Dogital shows empty-files are encrypted. nothing, not even drive size. A 64gb ssd copy shows as 7gb + 4gb with no data, even though it's known to have data on it.

gparted gave little info.

Run the "blkid" command from the console and see what it tells you about the device. Then maybe we can help.

relevant drive is sdc1 ##### No it's not, thats an SD card. the device is not detected. Do not know if 64bit read of 32bit hdd works. did reset computer to legacy boot, but no difference.

How is it hooked to the computer?
Specific details.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

connected via external usb/caddy adapter--used to work but might have failed. solution: make bootable 32bit usb puppy, swap sata hdd from 32bit desktop and boot from usb. should then be able to read drive.
