Well I tried that and can see no obvious diff
Code:
root# dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdc1 bs=1 count=1

Don't see a diff with lsusb so what might I be looking for?

Following on that if I do that again would the second to last bit go to 1
How can i get it back ? Can I send count=-1?
Code:
root# dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdc1 bs=1 count=-1
dd: invalid number: ‘-1’
root# dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdc1 bs=1 count=0
0+0 records in
0+0 records out
0 bytes copied, 0.000974086 s, 0.0 kB/s
root#

With some makes of USB the control bit is in a protected area and cannot be altered.
The only way that I know of telling is to try it and see.
