Subject description: from an existing install

I wanted to try the 4.2rc versions of Puppy, but
had run out of cds. There are posts on making a
frugal install without cd, but haven't found one
on doing a full install without cd. Here's a way
to do it.

I have 4 partitions on my 10gb drive. Sda1 is
10mb and just holds Grub. (just a personal preference)
Sda2, 3 and 4, divided equally. No Windows, only Puppies.
Ver. 4.1.1 on Sda2.

Downloaded 4.2rc2 to my existing 4.1.1 install.
Created a directory (Puppy420rc2) on partition
Sda4. Clicked the 4.2rc2 iso file and extracted pup-
420_sfs, initrd.gz, vmlinuz, to Puppy420rc2 on Sda4.

Went to Boot-Grub-Menu-Lst and made an entry for
Puppy 420rc2 frugal. Rebooted to Sda4. Rebooted
again and made a small pup-save file. (necessary!)

Booted back to Sda4. Clicked on Universal Installer
in Menu. Began process for full-install on Sda3.
When it reaches the point of asking where the files
are located, (cd or directory) choose directory.
In the 2 column box, hard-drive will be in the left
list; click it. Then click 420sfs in the right list.
Begin the install. When it reaches the part about
installing grub, just close the rest of the windows.
Go to Boot-Grub-Menu-Lst again and make an entry for
a full install. All done. Reboot.

This may look a little complicated, but was so simple
even I could do it.

Here's my grub:# Start GRUB global section
timeout 17
color light-gray/blue black/light-gray
# End GRUB global section
# Linux bootable partition config begins
# title Linux (on /dev/sda1)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda1 ro vga=normal
# Linux bootable partition config ends
# Linux bootable partition config begins
title Puppy 4.1.1 full (on /dev/sda2)
root (hd0,1)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda2 ro vga=normal
# Linux bootable partition config ends
# Linux bootable partition config begins
title Puppy 420rc2 (on /dev/sda3)
root (hd0,2)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda3 ro vga=normal
# Linux bootable partition config ends
# Linux bootable partition config begins
title Puppy 420rc2 frugal (on /dev/sda4)
rootnoverify (hd0,3)
kernel /Puppy420rc2/vmlinuz pmedia=idehd psub=Puppy420rc2
initrd /Puppy420rc2/initrd.gz
# Linux bootable partition config ends

Edit: 3-14

This process also works fine for usb-flash install.
