SDL-Libraries (for games)

#1 Post by MU »

*
* This message formerly was about Doom.
* For Doom look here now: http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?p=31370
*

The SDL-library for Games (430 kb):
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Games/LibSDL1.2-forDoom.pup (440 kb)

The MIDI-instruments for SDL (optional) (9 MB) (install this AFTER LibSDL):
http://noforum.de/dotpups/LibSDL1.2-MIDI-forDoom.pup

The MIDI-Files are not required, but they are half of the fun ;)
They are not from Debian, don't remember where I got them. This package is smaller (11 MB extracted) than the instruments from http://www.libsdl.org/projects/doom/ (18 MB).

Included files:
/usr/bin
sdl-config

/usr/lib
libSDL-1.0.so.0
libSDL-1.2.so.0
libSDL-1.2.so.0.7.2
libSDL_gfx.so
libSDL_gfx.so.12
libSDL_gfx.so.13
libSDL_gfx.so.13.0.0
libSDL_image-1.2.so.0
libSDL_image-1.2.so.0.1.3
libSDL_image.so
libSDL_mixer-1.2.so.0
libSDL_mixer-1.2.so.0.2.4
libSDL_mixer.so
libSDL_net-1.2.so.0
libSDL_net-1.2.so.0.0.5
libSDL_net.so
libSDL.so
libSDL_ttf-2.0.so.0
libSDL_ttf-2.0.so.0.6.1
libSDL_ttf.so
libsmpeg-0.4.so.0
libsmpeg-0.4.so.0.1.4
libsmpeg.so
libvorbisfile.so.0

/usr/local/lib/timidity
timidity.cfg

libSDL_mixer.so and libsmpeg.so are binaries from debian, the rest is compiled on Puppy.
Developers:
headers and static libraries are available here (400 kb):
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Games/LibSDL1 ... static.pup
Note that the includefiles do not include the debian-mikmod-patch, as I don't understand how to aply it to the sources.

This is awsome :) to play Doom from a live CD.

It was soo easy to install compared to other games, and so small.

Thank you.

Tip:

If your Notebook-computer overheats, open
/root/.prboom/prboom.cfg.tpl in beaver, and reduce realtic_clock_rate to 50.

The the cpu-usage is less, as the game is slower.
But still playable.

You also might try to set thesamplerate to 11025 , but i did not check this yet.

:? Is there a game that you go around petting puppys?

I was very impressed with Lara Croft (when it first came out) but stopped playing when I discovered she was shooting endangered animals. As for doom and quake - some of my friends are undead (well Windows users - same thing)

I really liked a game called echo the Dolphin - he just swam around being cute. There was a great game (in early development) on one distro where Tux delivered medical supplies to Africa . . .

What I really require is Tantric Buddhist game, where the demons of the hell realms are zapped with metta (a sort of transmogrifier) and turned into benevolent beings.

>petting puppys

*g* not really..

I think a nice game of the "non-brutal" category is tuxracer, but is based on OpenGL, which is too slow on my SIS-650 Graficscard.

I just bought a "Games-Knoppix", maybe I will make some dotpups of it, but did not have a closer look yet.

On Knoppix 4.0 is the old adventure "Beneath a steel sky".

But I fear it is big, as it has speech.

I am with Lobster on this one. I used to love all the adventure/stratigy games. I remember a promo game , I think it was pepsi sponcered it called The Lost City of Alanna I think.

Pick things up and carry them with you until you need them for something. Figure out how to unlock the door with the strange symbols and find out that you are going the wrong way just before you fall in the pit.

You get the idea.

Puppys would be a nice bonus ;)
Puppy Linux...
It just works!

Like to blow someones head with full effects? That sounds close to Manhunt! We have similar tastes in games!

hahaha, no, really, I prefer high adrenaline games. Mainly driving games. I fall asleep with quest-like games, I may not be patient enough.

I don't know about on the computer, but there is one for the Nintendo DS called Nintendogs. My brother and sister have it and it's kinda cool.
I prefer racing games and rpgs. I'm also a fan of the oldschool Sonic games. Real time strategy games are awesome too. Starcraft, Age of Emperors II, and Age of Mythology are some of my favorites. Sim City 3000 and Roller Coaster Tycoon are fun too. Oh, and Sim Copter. Nothing beats building a city in SimCity 2000 or SCURK, then loading it in Sim Copter and flying around it. And if you get bored, you can get an apache and cause mass mayham. And one code lets you become a super fast dog that can climb buildings. I really enjoyed Final Fantasy Tactics too. That game was one of the best I've ever played period. FFT Advanced was pretty boring in comparison, though. LEGO Loco (a LEGO game where you build a town with trains and easter eggs up the wazzoo) was one of my favorites when I was little. Vigilante 8 is another one of the best games I've ever played. I still whip out World Cup Soccar for the NES when I get bored. I've played many games of klondike both with cards and on the computer, and don't even ask how many hours I've wasted playing minesweeper :)

I used to impress students with easter eggs
Now in Open Office 2 (available at grafpup.com with a video on how to install at http://rhinoweb.us/) you can type
In any cell =Game("StarWars")
A small, space invaders style game will appear.

Yeah that is cool to impress your geeky friends but this being Open source I think we should hack it so Puppy is the only distro with Doom as an easter egg. Any volunteers?
(a macro, hidden directory and a dotpup should do it)

Gliezl, I tried Cube on Mandrake 9.2 some month ago.
It runs too slow on my machine (Intel celeron 2200 with SIS graficscard , no 3D-accelleration on x.org).

With a Nvidia or Ati -chip it should run fast, if you get accelleration working.

I updated the Dotpup (on the mirrors, too).
It now includes a patched version of SDL_mixer (from Debian), that allows to play .mod .it and other soundtrackerfiles.
This patch is required to play tuxracer and ppracer with music.
Also libsmpeg is included.

updated Dotpup

#17 Post by IvanF »

Could someone please re-post the original 261K version of this doom/sdl dotpup. The updated one gives me a segmentation fault when used with my hard disk installed Puppy 1.06 (No I don't want to update just yet!!). Unfortunately I have deleted the original dot pup along with the library files and now I can't run some games.

many thanks IvanF

original version of LibSDL1.2-forDoom.pup

#19 Post by IvanF »

Thanks but I need this pup which is used in conjuction with the file you listed -
LibSDL (Version 1.2, released Sep 27, 2005) - LibSDL1.2-forDoom.pup, 260.96 KB . The file is still listed but linked to the new larger file which is inconpatible with Puppy 1.06. The old file contains extra libraries which required for games like TuxType and TuxMath.
Does anyone still have a copy of this old pup?

Thanks again IvanF
