First, thanks... And sorry, but Weave is only available for FF3 as an addon, so it can't be added to Firedog

Yes indeed that is true.. MySpace seem to have taken the unbelievably stupid move of only supporting the latest Firefox!!

Not an issue for me as I NEVER visit myspace - I find most peoples MySpace pages to be horrendous abuses of web 'technology'

I hate MySpace a lot, but for MySpace users, that certainly is a real pain in the neck..

No idea what the MySpace developers think they are doing, it's easy to create great sites that support Firefox 1.5, even!!

I was reading the post and saw the dismal response you have gotten. I love the program, it is definitely faster on dial up!
I can't listen to the radio on dial up anyway but if I had to use a stand alone program for that so what? The text editor that you added is perfect for using on forums .

The other day I ran into one problem where the error was about needing a forms enabled browser. but that is it.
My Space is where perverts go to find children to abuse. If I could do what you do I would block it on purpose. There must be legitimate uses for it but I have seen nothing but the destruction of society there.

The net is a wonderful tool but a double edged sword. My niece is learning about puppy and I cannot let her use the chat. because of some of the vulgarity there. At least I can send her here.

Thanks very much, about the 'dismal' response, most people want FF3 or Opera 10 - but not me (and a few others apparently)

I couldnt find any good radio addons for FF2, a lot of cool addons are only FF3, which is a shame... And xinha is good for many tasks, but isn't really a full HTML WYSIWYG editor, I'll admit..

Also, you can use the 'blocksite' addon in Firedog to block any sites you like (or don't like!) including MySpace, which horrifies me from a design and usability point of view... Unusable and unreadable are the words for MySpace...

Obviously superb and I am only now running it through it's paces. With my netbook I need to maximize viewable space. Very nice layout. When I find out how to make my bottom ?menu bar appear and disappear--then it will be perfect.

I have tried ff3.6, Opera10,10,and firepup (It locked up when I attempted to bookmark)

I have been running puppeee off a USB stick for three days now. This is my first experience with Puppy and I am loving it.

Your very welcome, happy new year! I think I've got the same netbook as you, not really sure to be honest, and I put Firedog on it immediately, so as to save some screen space!

If you edit /root/.jwmrc-tray (i think) and set the autohide value to '1'... then you will have an autohiding taskbar

When I check the settings it has both pop.gmail and imap.gmail . I only added pop because mail I have forwarded to gmail comes from elink which only uses pop. I think my problem is Simple Mail is automatically adding imap and causing a conflict. Outgoing works fine. Any ideas? I love FireDog ! The on off toggle for images is a treat for dial up! I know I regularly get notices from Seamonkey that there's a new version, and inviting me to upgrade. But my understanding is that one has to wait for a new pet.

I've successfully updated Mozilla products on Puppy from the Mozilla update. The PET is useful to add the item to the Puppy menus and the like, but once that's in place, you shouldn't need to wait for an updated PET.

Seamonkey as delivered with Firefox was the exception in Puppy 4.12, because the Puppy install put it in /usr/bin, while the Mozilla default is /usr/local/bin. I wound up with two versions of the 1.X branch, and the Puppy menu still pointing at the old one. (Why Puppy didn't use the Mozilla default in the first place is beyond me.)

Similarly, I was just at the mozilla no-script download site, and it invited me to install the no-script addon, but I declined, fearing it would end up crippling my Puppy Seamonkey.

It won't be a problem. NoScript's developer took pains to make it work in any Mozilla application. It won't break Seamonkey, but will need to be installed in it.

Are these valid concerns?

Older Mozilla code like Seamonkey 1.X used an XPIInstall framework. Newer code, including Seamonkey 2.0, has switched to Toolkit internally. Extensions intended for XPIInstall will not install in Toolkit based apps, and vice versa.

Not all FF 2.0 extensions work in 3.0, and not all FF 3.0 extensions work in 3.5. There are changes in newer Mozilla versions that break older extensions. Each extension comes with an Install.rdf file that tells the program how to deal with it. The file includes fields specifying the oldest and newest versions of the program the extension is meant to work with. If you try to install an FF 3.0 extension in FF 3.5, FF will complain that it's not compatible and refuse to install it.

Many older extensions will work in newer releases of Firefox, but the install.rdf file hasn't been updated to include the later version number so FF doesn't know that. To get around it, the simple method is to install another extension. Mel Reyes created an extension called Tech Toolkit to assist in managing extensions and themes. One of the things TT can do is turn off compatibility checking, so you can successfully install an older extension and test it. If it doesn't work, you can uninstall it again. If it does work, you can right-click it's entry in the Add-ons list and select Make Compatible to turn off the incompatibility message.

Meanwhile, I'd suggest making NoScript a part of the default Firedog install. It blocks script activity from any site not in a user maintained whitelist, and can block JavaScript, Java, Flash, and Microsoft Silverlight.

Tech Toolkit sounds like a good tool, I think I will look into it. I hope it's not too big!

Also, I'll probably include noscript as default in Firedog 1.3.. Although most extensions I've included are much smaller. However I do understand its usefulness for many.

Anyone have any advice, requests or suggestions for Firedog 1.3?

I'm also thinking of making a Firedog for web designers (for myself more than anything) - basically Firedog, with a load of the great web development addons for FF2.

First I wanted to pass on my compliments for Firedog. I wouldn't have believed Firefox 2 would still run this well even on modern sites. My husband (who digs Puppeee Arcade by the way and has switched to it as his main OS) tells me sites load twice as fast (on our slow 3g connection) as Seamonkey 2 that I had him running before.

Have you considered using an optimized build of Firefox? I can't find the old builds of swiftfox, but I did find swiftweasel 2 is still available. I bet the pentium-m build would positively fly on a netbook.

I'll have a look at it.. To be honest, if I have to do it all from scratch again, I'll probably leave it, took me ages to get all the right addon versions etc, edit userChrome, etc...

However, it may be possible to simply use a different build and replace its /root/.mozilla and all the userChrome files in /usr/lib/firefox..

Or, it may be possible to replace a load of files in the filedog pet with files from one of the optimised FF builds...

if so, i'm game... I'll look into it.

First, your welcome.

Second, I don't use gmail, so don't know exactly what settings you need, but many people report that gmail works well with Simple Mail...

You can click on Preferences and edit your accounts, chaning any 'imap' values to 'pop' or 'mail' or whatever you need..

It should do, but it will depend on how much has been removed from that particular barebaones version. But it should.
