I have made VLC 1.0.6 Lucid pet smaller. After compiling the *.la files were left inside. I removed them. There are still all the previous files and codecs. The codec support is really good in this VLC compile.

The VLC is now 8 Mb smaller, 28 Mb --> 21 Mb.

1. See this post offering downloadflash-001.pet

2. I installed this program, and ran it just fine, and the updater appeared to function although Flashplayer-10.2.152.27-Lucid52 was already installed, so probably there was no update applied.

3. Clicked the "Save" icon on the desktop to save the changes.
This Lupu-520 is run using a live CD-RW, and using a lupusave on an internal HDD, but...
The isolinux.cfg file in the ISO has been edited as explained here to make the puppy treat the lupusave on the HDD as though it is a lupusave on a Flash Drive.
Also this change and this change, to allow me to choose when/whether to save the changes either DURING a session or at shut-down/reboot.

4. Rebooted.
Changes already saved, so chose to not-save at shut-down/reboot.

5. Once back into Lupu-520-ataflash... [The modified ISO used to make this copy]
usr/bin/dldflash exists.
If I type, in a terminal, dldfla and hit <TAB>, the full name of the command is then completed... [Confirms it is seen]
And if I then hit <Enter>, the command appears to work, except nothing [no extra program window] appears on screen.
Seems the program is no longer working! :(

Sylvander. I use puppies very straight as frugal installs in separate folders in my hdd. I dont know if your setup might cause your failure. I can install with the script flashplayer several times as a test.

Cheers.

1. "I dont know if your setup might cause your failure"
Perhaps this is so.
I noticed that after I installed downloadflash, the changes I'd made to /etc/rc.d/rc.shutdown were GONE!
Does your install put back the original copy [or your modified version] of this file?
What I did then was to delete this copy [not so smart?] and put back a copy of my updated/modified version of the file.
Perhaps what I aught to have done is; yet again modify only the necessary lines of code.

dldflash script is copied and mildly modified from Barry Kaulers delayedrun script. It certainly does not delete anything from your puppy. You can open the script and see yourself. There is only that flashdownload piece left.

I suppose that problem is totally somewhere else.

I'll restore a copy of the lupusave made immediately prior to installing downloadflash, and repeat the process with great care, whilst trying to understand where things may be going wrong. :)

Done. Only in ibiblio for now. Update index with Quickpet -> More Pets -> Update Lupu PPM

Done. I copied it over the old one. it seemed like a good idea at the time, but I am not sure now. Anyway it is done--available in ibiblio until it seeps through the mirrors.

1. Restored a lupusave of 2011 Feb 18th [prior to installing downloadflash].

2. Installed downloadflash.

3. Ran it using the dldflash command and it ran just fine.
Chose to NOT download the update.

4. Clicked the "Save" icon on the desktop to save the changes back to the lupusave.
Remember, this lupusave is on my internal HDD, but I've made changes so that the lupusave on the HDD is treated as though it's a lupusave on a Flash Drive, etc.

5. Rebooted, and at shut-down chose to not save the session.
This is un-necessary since I already saved the changes manually DURING THE SESSION.

6. Once back into this modified version of Lupu-520 ...
Downloadflash would no longer run using the dldflash command.
WOA! Just tried it again and it ran! :?
And again!
So I can now proceed to the next step.

7. Guess I should now try installing Menumaker-1.1.pet
I need a menu item for this, 'cause I'll probably forget the command over the passage of time.

8. Back, having installed menumaker-1.1.pet
And...
After using it to make a menu item for downloadflash...
downloadflash would no longer run! :(

PupControl update to V1.4
PupApps update to V1.4
PupShutdown update to V1.6
PupClockset update to V1.3
PupSnap update to V1.5

All done.

Remember Quickpet -> More Pets -> Update Lupu PPM

"8. Back, having installed menumaker-1.1.pet

"
Having rebooted [or for some other cause?]...
The dldflash command will run the program, but the menu entry won't. :(

whats this l5201101.043 file

Trivial point but when I did a frugal installation of lupu-520 (and spup 055) it makes an empty file eg l5201101.043 in the subdirectory.
Is this needed or is it something like to aid booting or recognise the version?

In which subdirectory, the lupu-520 or puppy-520 that contains the frugal install files?

Sylvander. I played also with Menu entry maker, manual folder creation, copy and dir2pet. This combination produced this:

EDIT 23.2.2011: The folder structure was wrong and also the .desktop file name was faulty, I had spaces in the name. Corrected now.

Hi playdayz,
Firstly may I say how impressed I am with what you and 01micko, with the help of others, have achieved with 520. Plus the way you have managed the project which has been exemplary.

It was just a very minor issue but when I do a frugal install from the CD using the PUI and put lupu 520 into a subdirectory called puppy520 with the files vmlinuz, initrd files etc I find an empty file called l5201101.043 there as well.
But no big deal sir.

Grub4dos creates some folders of its own, but I don't think they are empty. My guess is that is was something in Woof that Barry has fixed.
