I installed all 4 of the files, dragging and dropping the 1st on into the package manager, then clicking on it brought up the others so I clicked on them too.

That bugfix just showed up recently, my rationalise branch also had an rvxt and makesfs (I think that was it) update as well.
Thanks, Bill. Yeah, my "testing" build had the rxvt and sqaushfs-bugfixes too, and I had installed those too along with the xorg-server-1.18.3. Once you do them, they are removed from that bugfix popup window (hence, why there not shown in mine). But I didn't do all the xorg ones, thinking the other 3 weren't necessary (since they were not originally installed in the first place, unlike rxvt, squashfs, an xorg-server-1.18.3". I'll install the other 3 "xorg" ones, repeat everything I was doing last night (and watching Slacko freeze up left & right) and hopefully it will make a difference. Thanks again.

P.S. Wonder if anyone else besides me noticed Micko put in not just the regular "redshift & redshift-gtk" stuff, but instead the nice "redshiftgui" (like Fred has in the dogs)? It was/is really nice, and I think redshiftgui should be a standard offering in all pups given the amount of people asking about it. Another thread in "Puppy Projects" was opened up some weeks back by two looking for some way to control their screens like redshiftgui does.

For what it's worth, I have found the Slackware Firefox 52.2.0 and 52.3.0 esr to be a lot more unstable and crashtastic than the 52.1.2 version in the adrv in the official Slacko 6.9.9.9, so I have been just ripping out Firefox from distro specs and using that older adrv instead when building/casually testing Slackware 14.2 in Woof-CE.

I did a new rationalise branch build of xenialpup64 and installed it to
a 32gb usb-3.0 flash drive:

Hi Billtoo.

Only problems I found with xenialpup64 rationalize was mpv was missing a lib and under some circumstances the menu based configuration tools could lead to a corrupt jwm instance (top panel in the default build lost most of its icons).

For instance I used pupsetclock to enter a custom format date/time to be displayed in the panel ... after which the top panel was reduced down to just two icons.

Hi rufwoof.

Mpv works okay here, I've only been running xenialpup64 for a few hours but it's working great so far.

Thanks Billtoo. I used wiak's makepup to do the woof-ce build, perhaps its something down to that (the default desktop produced that way was quite different to the more usual default i.e. top and bottom panels, with both being central ... not full screen width for the bottom panel).

Ah, I think I know what might be the reason for that difference, rufwoof. I remember thinking about it a while ago but forgot to look into it:

makepup currently creates and uses a default makepup_extra.conf file which it uses to select extra installed packages. The contents are approximately what was offered whilst making a slacko manually and I imagine xenial maybe offers a different default selection. I'll look into that and consider modifying to suit. If that's not the reason, I can't imagine what would be at the moment.

Hi rufwoof, Billtoo,

I have just woof-CE built XenialPup64 twice (using rationalise branch - host system is Slacko64 ver 6.3.2), once using latest makepup I'm working on (has a few extra options for safety and auto creates extra packages list (support/rootfs-packages.conf) based on distribution being built (as in manual build). Used:

Code: Select all

./makepup -t 3 -d 5 -r 2 -K 28
The second build I just completed was a manual build (I'm posting from that just now).

In both cases I used kernel choice 28 (-K 28 ), which is:

Code: Select all

root# uname -a
Linux puppypc18726 4.9.15 #1 SMP Fri Mar 17 15:54:36 GMT 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Both the makepup auto-built xenialpup64 and that created manually looked identical and BOTH had the following libraries not found mpv errors:

Code: Select all

root# ldd mpv | grep 'found'
	libmircommon.so.7 => not found
	libcapnp-0.5.3.so => not found
	libmircore.so.1 => not found
So issue seems to be with woof-CE xenialpup64 recipe, not makepup.

I'm curious what you have done such that these libs are not missing on your build Bill. Perhaps they are included with your own kernel used packaging (rather than those available via woof-CE directly?)

I'll be uploading new ver 0.0.5 makepup soon once I've tidied the new code up a bit and done some more testing. It contains quite a few major code changes - both to do with the extra options (and organisation of when to use makepup_extra.conf) and also the auto-alter support/rootfs-packages.conf code dependent on distro chosen. So it needs quite a bit of testing, but looking okay thus far.

Is mpv even in Xenialpup by default? I don't remember seeing it until I used Devuan. Perhaps you are all using a different version of mpv? :D

@Sailor,

Yes, I am not modifying Xenialpup64 builds at all. mpv is in there but these libs are missing (or not symlinked in correctly if they are there is some other named form).

Hi,

I compiled the prorietary nvidia driver on 2 xenialpup64 installs and both mpv and kodi work fine.
On another xenialpup64 with an amd radeon graphics card neither mpv or kodi will run.

I'm building a tahrpup64 now with the oldest kernel "7" to see if I can compile the flgrx driver and try kodi in that one.

Ah... that compile must have pulled in the missing libs needed by mpv I guess.

chroot test a new woof-CE build from its host build system (or any other Linux system):

Howto do the above is given here:

Speaking of chroot test, I just tried to build xenial64 (testing branch) using xenial64-7.0.8.5 and it's devx as base and it stopped at that part of 3builddistro-Z (screenshot).

edit: Using slacko64-6.9.9.5 and it's devx as the build environment to make xenial64 (testing branch) seems to be working better. Now I wonder if using this newly created xenial64 to make xenial64 will work better than the real xenial64-7.0.8.5 one did for me or not, and if so, then that xenial64 produced by that xenial64 :lol:

edit2: The xenial64 iso produced by that slacko64 was missing the 3 mpv libraries wiak and rufwoof mentioned too it seems (/usr/lib had libmircommon.so.5 instead of 7). Also, QBat in xenialpup says my full Battery is at negative 109%. :)

I tried the tahrpup64 build on a pc with an AMD graphics card and it
didn't go well, deleted the savefile and moved it to an Acer with
nvidia card, it works great on there.
Installed to a 32gb SDHC card.

Just dropped by woof-CE github and note that the missing libs (for mpv etc) seem to have been added now to the testing branch of xenial 32bit and 64bit. I haven't tried it yet.

Since it takes time for such bugfixes to filter through to rationalise branch I intend the next release of makepup to default to using testing branch (despite the chance of things breaking in that branch owing to its 'testing' nature). Will still be able to use rationalise branch instead of course using switch -w/--woofbranch.

It's working okay so far, some applications aren't available

Following a test XenialPup64 I made with makepup from woof-CE-testing branch, I can confirm that mpv media player is now working when built from that branch. That follows from the recent woof-CE-testing bugfix where the missing libs were added in as 'yes' to the DISTRO-PKGS-....
